Is it hard to install the 10" subwoofer?
Honestly, 3 out of the 4 cobalts i looked at are missing the 10" subwoofer in the trunk...sound system is really important to me cause I enjoy my music greatly! If i were to buy the sub off of ebay, would it be hard to install it myself? or would it be plug and play as long as the wires are all there?
basically, you can't just ADD it to a system that didn't have it originally. to do so would cost a fortune.
however, the factory sub is a dual voice coil 2x2ohm sub, so just about any decent monoblock or two channel amp could be made to work. or, just use the factory box, a shallow mount sub and an amp.
i did the second one... https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/how-...ear-sub-78178/

however, there were a few that managed to sneak out that didn't....
case in point, my car states in the sales book that it does... it does not have it.
do you have the pioneer tweeters in the doors?
yes, i don't have the car, But i went to the dealer today and when i played the radio it had worse bass than my LS. It did have the pioneer tweeters so i popped the trunk and, as always, had to point out to the (non-chevy) salesman that all SS's come with the pioneer sub, and this one was clearly missing it. Another reason to talk them down
in the trunk is a connector with 4 wires in it. two hot and two ground for the 2 voice coil sub.
in theory, you could slap any 2x2ohm sub in there, tap into the wires and rock, but i would avoid anything that too much draw to it.
it would be best to either find the factory sub and box.... OR, get a box for a ten, and find the factory sub driver itself.
if you choose that option, let me know, i have the factory speaker itself, just no box, and am willing to give it to you.
^^^ I agree.... I had the whole pioneer system w/sub and it was junk.....
I ended up bypassing the amp, adding a aftermarket amp, changed the headunit to double din and all the speakers and twitters..... also if you want really good sound, make sure to dynomat... also I put all my accessories on a second battery and capacitors and what not...
so all in all to get the job done and retain your functions, steering wheel controls, bluetooth and not lose alternator power... it will cost a buttload.

The stock audio system is trash. I cant believe they charged me nearly a grand for it, I told them i didnt even want the damn thing. Ive replaced the entire audio system in the car. Go aftermarket, youll be happier in the long run.
