I just did an install on an aftermarket head unit (Blaunpunkt Key West MP36) and it works fine, I even installed the accessory wire into the fuse box (tried the sunroof fuse and the wiper fuse).

When I turn off the engine on the car, the CD player is still running. Even when I open the door and leave, the music continues to play.

I can turn off the power on the head unit, but I don't really want to do that all the time and am afraid it is still sucking up the power when it is off.

Was I not supposed to hook the harness with the red 12V constant power supply?

 

Try switching the 2 wires (ACC and the 12v line) and see if that fixes your problem. If you have those reversed then it would stay on.

 

I currently have the yellow wire 12V Battery Memory from the harness linked to the 12V yellow wire on the head unit.

I have the 12V Ignition (red wire) from the harness hooked up to the accessory wire going to the fuse box hooked to the wipers 10amp fuse.

Should I still try and switch this?

 

Hmm seems like everything is right, are you sure your tapping the right fuse, make sure its the right one from the picture, its a little messed up if I remember right, you have to tilt the diagram or something for everything to line up. But I hope you figure this out because i will be doing the same thing tomorrow

 

you have wires crossed i think. did you get the wiring harness?

 

I definitely have the right fuse. When i took out the fuse, the wipers stopped working.

Any other ideas? Should I try to reverse the batter 12V and the Accessory wire? Could I do any damage if I do?

 

Yep I got the wiring harness from Crutchfield. Based on the diagram for the harness it says that the yellow wire is used for 12 Volts Constant Power.

I'm not arguing with that one, because I am definitely getting constant power. But it would be nice if the car starts in the morning... ;-)

 

Lock your car, get out. Unlock get in, but dont put the key in. Can you play a song on your radio?

the Accessory wire should be installed into the igintion wire .. this way when you turn on the car the head uint comes on.. and when you turn it off and open the door the power is off.. not sure what color it was.. but its right under the dash.. once i get home i could tell you the color wire to tap off of..

 

Correct me if I am wrong but if I don't have the accessory wire hooked to anything, I shouldn't even be able to turn on the head unit right?

I played some music, then decided to get out of the car, lock it, go get a can of beer to see if I can think of something else came back, walked by and the car unlocked it, open the door and it is still going.

As I said, the constant 12V is definitely working well, even without the accessory wire.

 

Oh, the only time I have had the key in the ignition today was when I was checking to make sure I had my accessory wire hooked to the wiper fuse. (although right now I have taken that fuse out).

 

I am starting to think that it is some weird Blaupunkt feature (i have never used Blaupunkt before and I wouldn't put it in my car, this is my Dad's Cobalt).

So I decided to go for a test drive, hopped in the car, drove around came back pulled into the garage, turned off the car. Sure enough, the head unit says "Goodbye" and shuts off. So I am thinking I am in good shape here as it does turn off. However i take the keys out of the ignition, open the door and decided to see if I can turn the head unit back on, and it does turn back on again.

But of course, I can hit the Power off button and it turns off. So it doesn't appear to be draining any power when I turn off (but I don't know for sure).

Let's see of the car will start in the morning. I have my jumper cables ready in case for tomorrow morning. ;-)

I hope so. I told Crutchfield about the issue and they decided to send me a new head unit. They didn't think it is supposed to work that way.

 

I've never used of of their headunits but no tat doesnt sound right at all

 

Damn they sent you a new one? Are they expecting the original one in return? If not thats crazy

 

Yeah, I have to send the old one back. Crutchfield is amazing, they sent me the wiring harness, the DIN, the antenna adapter and installation manuals for free (saved me about $60) when I got the head unit. I basically didn't have to buy anything extra. And they have great tech support. Plus I get everything at most in 2 days, usually 1. I like buying from them when I can.

 

yes crutchfield is #1 in customer support. i love them, but they are not the cheapest sometimes so i dont buy from them much.

 

I use there site all the time for info and easy browsing, but there so damn expensive....Would you do us all a favor and post up those sheets on here?

 

Talked to Blaupunkt this morning. Apparently all their new radios have this feature.

It uses a timer that allows a user to listen to music without turning on the ignition or acc at all for up to an hour!

Apparently based on some customer feedback, it is a security feature so you don't have to leave the keys behind for who ever is in the car and they can still listen to the radio. (So they don't drive off on you and leave you stranded?) Or if you have to leave your kids in the car with a babysitter and she/he can't drive off?

Yeah, Crutchfield is pricy at times, but they have some amazing deals too, and I would rather pay more knowing that I get the little extras, and great support. They are finally coming into Canada (in 2 weeks) !!! woohoo! ;-)
