Help a new Head Unit.

Hi guys, I'm new here, and I've got a few questions about changing the HU in my Cobalt. I've got an 06 Cobalt LS Coupe, and I've gotten sick of the stereo in it. I'm looking to put in a new one with all the bells and whistles, but this whole thing has got me confused. I've put some stereos in cars in my day, but I'm a little up-in-arms over this whole wiring harness deal. I read the General FAQ, and it says that I can use the Metra Harness on my car, and everything will be okay. But, if I go on the Metra site, it says that all the factory warning chimes will not function. I pulled my radio to have a look, and there is only one plug in my stereo, the square harness isn't hooked up.

So my question is; if I install a stereo using the Metra Harness, what features, if any, will I be losing on my car. Will the DIC still work, will I get the dings and beeps, and will my car still works!?

sinc you already pulled the radio just unplug it. any features that could be lost would be if the stock radio is disconnected. so yank it and try it out. with an 06 all you loose is onstar/xm

Ya you should be fine. They aren't metra I forgot the brand name but when installed my eclipse dvd/nav I got the kit that keeps the onstar working not that I use it but depending on the person I sell it too it maybe something they want. They also have a kit that keeps the steering wheel functions like vol depending on what you have.

right but im saying to test it unplug the radio. if removing the factory radio actually messed up ur dic then unplugging it would do so. when it doesnt and ur chimes are still there ull know ur fine. but you can install the radio wrong and mess **** up so be careful
