Hooking Devices to USB Inquiry
Hooking Devices to USB Inquiry
Hey Guys/Gals
I've only ever hooked two devices into the USB in the my Cobalt. One was my old MP3 Player made by Creative (about 4 years old) and it didn't work. I've also hooked Ipods into the USB and they work fine.
I've been looking at a new smart phone. Currently it's impossible to get Iphones in my area and I was thinking either blackberry or HTC. My question is will these new products stream music through our stereo?
If anyone has any experience with this, the feedback would be appreciated.

I thought MOST volumes under ~30 gigs were more practical with FAT32, rather than NTFS. So it all just depends on how the card is formatted. Anyone try it yet? I'm curious too
no, fat32 cannot hold 1 file over 4 gb. So a movie or iso thats over 4gb couldnt fit. I have most of mine ntfs even if they are 8gb. the one i leave in my car is fat32 of course.
I have a 2010 Cobalt SS and my Android smartphone, specifically a Samsung Epic 4g does NOT work. The USB will charge it slowly but the car says "Unknown Device" or whatever. I emailed Chevy asking if there was some sort of app or driver for my phone that would make it work. My phone even has a mass storage mode that is supposed to make it just like a flash drive but that doesn't work either. My phone is also capable of playing music via bluetooth, but I can't get that working in the car either. I think the car needs to understand a certain bluetooth profile which it does not. I also asked Chevy about that. Once I hear back I will post again. If anyone gets an Android phone working please let me know.
I can and do play music with the Aux 3.5mm headphone jack. I just wish I could use the radio controls to pause play and browse files. It would make me drive safer.

EDIT, looks like you already tried that. I fail for not reading.

I haven't tried much besides iPHones, thumb drives and USB hard drives. They all work.
As for bluetooth. We don't have stereo bluetooth built into the radio so it cannot stream music over bluetooth.
I can't believe putting the Android phone in mass storage mode doesn't work.

It's been a while since I played with mine but IIRC in the settings on the phone, you can select what "mode" it goes into when attatched to USB. If you set it to Mass Storage (I think that's what it's called), it should work.

I already tried with my Epic 4g..it flips to usb then nonusb so fast you cant actually choose a mode. I know 2.2 OS just came out but I havent tried it yet. My friend with a evo tried it the day after the evo came out...it ended up not working and wiping his phone data
sorry to make a zombie post, but did any1 ever confirm droid devices working with the cobalt's usb stereo? there's a "mount as" option in android 2.2+ that'll mount the sd as a drive, like a usb stick... which work, i assume?
looking to trade up to a tc and this is a big feature, want to make sure it works.
