How's the bass quality with a LOC
How's the bass quality with a LOC
I just replaced my front speakers with alpine type s's and man the highs are clean....I may not even change out the headunit.....but for me to add a Sub, I would need a Line out Converter...I have never used one before, Usually I upgrade the head unit....So how do they sound?

its just a 600 watt shallow mount setup btw.
Thanks for all the info guys.
Ps I was going to sell my car, but backed out, so I sold all the aftermarket stuff, now Im rebuilding.
Next question, how would I install one?
You don't need to use a LOC... it's not the right way to do it if you don't need to.
You will get better results by using the wiring that goes to your stock sub. Wire it to a 2-channel amp that has a high input. You make a harness with the 4 wires and plug them into the high input. You will then connect the new sub bridged. There is a good how to on this, its easier than using a LOC, and you won't be sucking power from other speakers and using half ass signals. I'm not sure but I think the stock stereo sends specific signals to each speaker set, so if you tap the rears, you won't be getting the cleanest bass possible.

All you really need is a bridgeable 2-channel amp with high input.. Splice a few wires and you're good.

Oh duh, lol. I didn't even think of that.. For some reason I just assumed you were talking about the pioneer system.. sorry I don't pay enough attention. Loc will be fine then, most people on here seem to have good luck with them.
and the bass remote will still adjust right? I dont see why it would not....

The biggest key to using an LOC for sound quality's sake is ensuring the deck is in NEGATIVE bass territory. ie the equalizer for bass set pretty low. i think on my stock cobalt deck i was able to get it to about half way to 0db(flat line) before it started sounding clipped with distortion. The problem with LOC's is that it's taking an amp'd signal which already has distortion and noise, cutting down that signal, and then re-amplifying that when it hits the 2nd amp.
to install an loc you'd take your rear channel speaker connections, splice into them, and feed the spliced ends into the loc. from there run rca's out the other end of the loc to your amp.
read up on properly tuning stereos. i wouldn't go so far as tuning with pink noise or anything(system not high fidelity), but a good stepped approach will get you best results.
another good tip, on new subs, don't slam them right off the bat. let the woofer have time to break in a bit before cranking up the amp's juice to it.. you'll end up with a longer lasting sub.

lol ya tuning with pink noise is a bitch let me tell you. but the only BIG down side of a LOC is the remote on the amp. you pretty much have to have the amp on when the car is on regardless of if the stereo is on. and in some cases when you turn off the radio and the amp is still on it will make the subs go crazy. But its somewhat rare that it does that
its good that ppl r getting good results with the loc, i just put a sytem in my ss with a loc but im not too happy witht he bass quality and its a good sub and ampo combo, neone got ideas on how to tune it up properly, im new to the locs
