there should be a clip on the outerside towards the bottom where the seat is held in, the majority of them are like that, where the swivel hinge is, you should be able to use a screw driver to pop it out, then usually you pull the seat towards you, and it comes out of one thing, and then move it the oposite wat and it comes out of the other..... i havent done a cobalt backseat but im pretty sure it will be about the same

The bottom of the seat just push in and lift out. The back part is bolted in with I believe 4 bolts. If you are removing the back part from the car you will have to take off your battery cable, it slides through the bottom of the seat, bad design.

i did this on my car
if ur box wont fit through the trunk, it WILL NOT fit through the backseat
you would have to take off the rear speaker deck, if thats even possible
its an optical illusion, it wont fit that way, trust me, my box was 1/4" too big

Tiny, it will work, I've done it and fit a Bassworx Gloss Box in my Cobalt which is the exact height of the rear deck. To remove the rear seat just push it in and it will lift out, no bolts, then the rear seats backs will sit flush with the trunk floor.
Next take out the floor of the trunk and the spare tire and the stud... angle the box in using the spare tire well for clearance and you should be set...
