Installing additional amp w/ pioneer system
Installing additional amp w/ pioneer system
I just purchased a Sound Ordnance M1350 Mono Amp to power my JBL-GTO804 I am using to replace the factory pioneer 8" sub. Now I was told on the HHR forum I am on that I can use the Kicker 09ZISL adapter to convert the low-level speaker wires into RCA inputs to run to the amp. Now my question is will this work using just two wires since I am just running one channel for the sub correct? I can't find a wiring diagram for the HHR w/ the Pioneer stereo so I cam not sure if it's the same as the Cobalts. I was told to use the Brown and Brown/White wire for the adapter, is this the rear left?
I hope I am trying to install the setup this weekend and I can't get a clear answer from anyone on the HHR forum. I know they said the pink wire was the remote but I can't find a wiring diagram anywhere for the HHR.
I am keeping the stock amp to continue to power all the speakers I am just using the new amp to power the new sub.

look around for a guy his username is emperor something.... hes really good with all this audio stuff. he has a thread of making his whole car like rattle proof or soemthing like that.
Well I got this wiring diagram link from Crutchfield.

Since the stock subwoofer looks like it has dual coils should I use all four wires in the adapter?

it is best to use all 4 wires but not necessary. The reason you want to use all 4 wires is in case a song is using stereo effects on the bass or entire song to make sure you get all the audio you should. But this is somewhat rare so you can use only 2 wires and it would work. you would just want to split them so the + and - are combined. But especially with a LOC like that kicker one might as well use all 4 wires
So should I go ahead and just tap into the right side rear speaker as well. I am using the wires coming from the factory amp to tap into. A guy on the HHR forum that recommended the kicker adapter said the rear speakers was already a low level signal coming from the amp so a Line out Converter with gain control was not needed. But he said he only used the left rear + & - I am not sure why?
alot of people only use one side bc they are lazy and its easier. but what you said makes no sense. so your tapping of the stock sub thats a dual coil with 4 wires or your tapping off the stock speakers?
Here is a pic I found of what I have that someone took out of theirs.
Alright so I pulled mine apart tonight. So the 4 wires running to the sub are not coming from the amp, they go directly to the sub from the wiring harness. Should I use these 4 wires for my adapter or should I use the left and right rear speakers after they exit the amp?

Alright, I got it all hooked up over the weekend. Everything is working and I need to tune it but I am getting a loud pop from the sub when I turn the ignition on, any idea what would cause this. I haven't put it all back together because I want to fix the popping, the ground seems good any thoughts?
I will play with the gain and see if that is the cause, if it's not the gain, would a voltage regulator help with this? If I got this where would it be wired to the remote power?

Thanks, what are your thoughts on using the subsonic filter? I know Bass Boost just causes distortion but I have no experience with a subsonic filter.
Thanks again for all the advice!

subsonic filter should be on especailly with an 8in sub. the subsonic filter is a reverse lowpass crossover. it filters out the freqs that the sub cant play and that your ear cant hear
