Installing Headunit

So i just bought a wiring harness from scosche (http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...he+GM13SR.html) And i plugged it in and i get power but no sound. I physically tested the HU but hooking up a speaker directly to the back of the CD player and it worked. I did some reading in the FAQ section and correct me if i'm wrong, but i need to do some speaker wire modding for it to work?

It says that this http://www.electronicexpress.com/product?prod_id=9759 wiring harness will work better. This is significantly cheaper than the harness i bought from scosche and that would be awesome if i could get away with the Metra one. Thanks in advance for helping.

What year is your Cobalt? 05-06 or 07+?
What sound system do you have? Pioneer 7 speaker or basic 4 speaker?
