Installing New Head

Hello,

I am sick of the shitty sony head from walmart that the previous owner had in my car. So, I am installing a pioneer head so I have a "matching" system. My questions..

Will I need a new wiring harness? There is already an after market deck. Or shall I find the one labeled Metra 70-2103

The steering wheel controls already work... kinda... Would I need that adapter? Or can I just hook this bad boy up.

That's all. The only cars I have done this stuff on is really old ass cars that have like 2 wires. And I have a 2006 cobalt SS

I found me a sticky!!! Anyways, I am thinking the adapters and stuff are already in the car hence why the other aftermarket deck still works. So I will just tear into it and see what happens.

the harness will be fine to reuse. steering wheel controls on the other hand maybe or maybe not. most companies swi interfaces cover sony and pioneer together with the same part so you should be ok there as well but its really a flip of the coin. You will need to reprogram it at the very least thou

Reprogram the steering wheel interface for the new radio.
Get the PN of the SWI and check what it's compatible with.

Yes, sorry.
PN = Part number
SWI = steering wheel interface

Ok, Hopefully I can make a clean switch without buying anything else. Just waiting for the car to warm up in the garage so I don't snap off plastic! I am currently looking at how to reprogram this device we speak of.

Ok. The number for the pioneer head doesn't match anything on the Pac Audio website. The sony is a MEXBT2900. Kudos for whoever installed this, but they did a very clean job. The only downside, is that I don't know for sure what the attached Sony wires are. I am guessing they are the same on the pioneer, but I just don't want to destroy anything. It's a Solid Black, red, and Yellow wire.

Its a pioneer DEH X55HD I don't know what the adapter thing is. All I know is that its an opaque blue with a light in it.

I believe the black is the ground and the other two are for the power. I think one is the constant power and the other is for when the ignition is switched on.
