installing a viper 5901 how hard?
Ok, I've done a ton of searching here and else where and was wondering just how hard it is to install? Looks like I need to get a dlpk along with the 5901, am I missing anything else? I don't need all the other extra add ons. I installed my own cruise, autodim mirror and aftermarket door locks, I've just heard some people say its not bad if you take your time and then I've heard the horror stories. But then I'm a little worried about some shop installing it cuz it looks like some of the installers are still in high school. Just looking for some input.
DIY. It's not hard. Just be careful with the transponder wires when you wire in the dlpk....they're obnoxiously thin gauge....all the wires you need pretty much run from the passenger kick panel. Other than that it's pretty straight forward install. There will always be horror stories with remote starts on vehicles that have low current wires because people don't take their time with their meter and read the tech notes etc.
pff tech notes? i just throw out the manual (use it to lite a cigarette in most cases) then i color match the wires with the ones on my dual radio (it only works with dual... they have super alarm tech built in) and twist the rest together and wrap that around the fm antenna wire for longer remote start range

JJ kills me lol....and dude to be honest. I'm the one out of six installers at our shop that solders connections. I get **** for it because it takes extra time but I tell them to **** off because my cars don't come back...the other guys "wrap electrical tape SUPPOR TITE LYKE OMGZ" and military splice (which is a little more acceptable but still bullshit imo). So don't count on getting your connections soldered, unless you goto best buy that is...I'm pretty sure it's mandatory for installers to solder there. And don't waste cash on an iron. Pick up a $5 pocket butane torch at harbor freight. Makes it much quicker, as long as youre careful not to light your entire care on fire.
