i use the stock deck... less of a chance to get stolen and IMO it sounds pretty good ...

if i was going to change my deck it would be to an in dash dvd... more subtle

I like my stock deck as well. I have subs in the trunk and Alpine Type-R components up front. It looks and sounds far better than my friends with decks. I can run the stock headunit all the way up to full volume and I dont get any distortion through the Alpine's and they're loud as hell

seriously... stock deck on my ion... probably the same as your mid deck i'm guessing... (only came with 4 speakers) and I run my pioneer 1670R's, RF201S amp an P2 sub and it's nice and loud.. and clear, sounds better then my system in my old satty with a deck and the same speakers better bass and mid's and clearer highs and no distortion when it's at full blast.. the only thing was my aftermarket deck could pump it out a bit louder.. but i'm looking for SQL not SPL

assuming you have a pioneer system with little intention of upgrading farther than the deck I would say keep the deck unless you intend to go with an in-dash navigation system of some kind or a screen, there is no benefit to changing it for another deck that just plays CD's

If you dont have the pioneer system and want a little more power out of your stock speakers and a little bit more clarity, changing the deck may be a good first step (I have pioneer system so I dont know how different the non-pioneer system is)

Lastly if you intend to do major audio upgrades, i.e. a four channel amplifier, large numbers of subs, basically anything where you would want to have your subwoofer channel seperate from your rear channel and would need front and rear low level outputs, then I suggest changing the deck because all the high end components in the world are only so good with limited tuning capability offered by the stock radio

just my 2cents

Use the stock deck with JL Audio CleanSweep. A friend of mine has it in his accord cause the way his radio is in his dash, its almost impossible to put a regular head unit. Sounds awesome

imo, if you want to go, you have to go all out. Theres not much use in investing in some beastly ass headunit with stock speakers, or vice versa. Plus, generally if you get a headunit under $100, it will sound just the same as, if not worse, than your stock HU.
