Back in high school I had
2 - JL Audio 12W6 in a ported box I built myself (tried to tune to 30Hz)
1 - Rockford Fosgate Punch 200 (500 watts iirc)
In a 1992 Z24 with the back seat down and the speakers and port
all aimed at the front, I hit 140.6dB at the lower part of the windshield.
It was the only competition I went to and I made it to the finals!!!
I was in 1st place until the other guy hit 140.7 in the last 3 seconds to win
I got a stupid t-shirt and he got a 3ft tall trophy..... BOOOOO!!!
I'm pretty sure I'm gonna beat that by the end of the summer!
I ordered 2 Earthquake amps that put out 3000 watts RMS at 1ohm.
Plus 2 Kove Armageddon 15" subs. All I need now is a 4 channel amp
for the front and rear speakers and a BIG capacitor. I'll probably have to
upgrade the alternator and battery too.... Now I need to go to a local stereo shop
and see what kind of custom install they can do! I started about a year ago,
buying the parts one at a time.... I can't wait for this thing to finally be DONE!

I would love to get my cars meetered, but have no clue where to go, the local shop doesn't have a meter or do any shows...Anyone in the chicago area have a meter and want to play? Or should I pick up a cheap one from Radioshack?
Is there a prefered song/ track/ sound to use for metering? I mean with 200watts to the tweeters I'm sure I could get way over 130, but your all talking sub frequencys...

cheap one from radioshack is worthless and any numbers you get from it are null and void with anyone who knows anything about car audio. Most metering is done using sine waves and on a term lab sensor (thats right its a sensor not a meter so you have to have pressure not volume) but sometimes the audiocontrol meter is used (problem is you must "tune" it so its possible for one guy in cali to hit 150db and one guy in new york to hit 140db with the exact same setup in the same car and in reality actually have the same amount of volume/pressure)

I have one 12" Alpine Type-R sealed in a crappy box for now and then my amp is a Profile 1200. It works for now but does anyone have any suggestions for a good box for my sub. Like should i make a ported box or built a new sealed box?

anything over 150 db, will make you sick, we got lots of exageration going on here
last night @ orange julep they had a db stand, testing out audio, so i pulled in the line
i hit 137.8db @ 42 frequency and i did not have my favorite cd with me i am sure i could have top'ed out at 142, and not many people cant stay in my car for very long
running alpine head unit, 1x15"comp vr & 500 watt kicker/ 2 x10"comp vr & 600 watt
we had a guy hit 155db and he had a remote radio in the back of his truck, cause there is no way you could stand the pounding inside the cab

his best so far has only been 144.7 db but his box is not resdin inside yet nor is his port tune
