mp3 player line in

obviously..the 06 ss/sc's do not come with mp3 player line in jacks...which is GAY. I really want to use my mp3 player in my car most of the time...but i dont like the FM transmitters. mine works ok...i just dont feel like using it....is there any way to hardwire an aux jack to the 06 ss/sc head unit? I want like a little cable sticking out of my dash that i can plug my mp3 player into it or something....how would i do that if it's possible?

I have a Scosche FM-MOD01 Modulator from Crutchfield. It is wired into the antenna cable. It works very well for me. Since you live close to me, this should be relevant. I have been from Aurora and Des Plains to Milwaukee with no static or fading. sound quality seems very good to me, not muffled like cheaper units I have tried. You could buy a jack and mount it in you dash if you want., or a powered jack and eliminate the power switch. Mine is in the glove box with a short cable. It is pretty easy to install, but you would need to do a little dash dis-assembly. If you go this rout, you need the extra cables Crutchfield recommends.

Yeah, there's no way to do it without opening the head unit up, and good luck with that

I'll break it down for you then....

If you want an inline aux while retaining your factory headunit; here are the steps:

Go to Circuit City and buy these two things:

1. http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Harma...oductDetail.do

2. http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Metra...oductDetail.do

Here is the post on how to remove the dash trim

https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/how-guide-43/disassemble-dashboard-radio-related-panels-7236/

From there, remove the four bolts that hold the head unit on.

Unplug the radio antenna plug and plug it into the HK Wired Adapter.

Run the input jack to a place where you would like it to be.

Take the GM adapter and plug it onto the male end of the HK Wired and then plug into your headunit.

You won't be able to control the MP3 player from the headunit, but its the cheapest way to get it to work.

YES...thank you jesus! it's cool that i wont be able to control the mp3 player from the headunit...i just want a jack to plug it in to....do you know how the sound quality is with a setup like this? if the sound is shitty...or no better than a monster wireless fm transmitter...i might just go that route. But...if the sound quality is decent with this setup....it'll be worth the hassle. I just got subs in my car and i dont want the sound to be ****.

The sound quality is pretty good. Its not top quality, but it is a as clear the strongest radio station you can imagine constantly (no interruptions or static)...I'm sure you won't be disappointed...if for some reason, you don't like it, you can just bring the parts back...

Its definately better than ANY wireless FM transmitter.

So....with this setup do you only get one radio station which is your mp3 player? or do you still get other stations?

You still get all your stations. When your input device is on, you just need to turn to that specific fm freq to listen to it.

Oh so the adapter then has a selector for which frequency to use? or is it just set to one frequency and thats the one you tune into on your stereo? Thanks for the feedback on this..

Yeah, the FM modulator normally has a selection of a couple stations. So you set the modulator's frequency as one of your radio presets, and when you want to listen to the mp3 player, you tune to that station.

you get everything... lol its the same thing as a wireless transmitter except wired to the antenna... so that device will need to have a stonger signal then any radio stations or any interferance ect... personally i dont think its worth it.. i rather like quality and while you can probably find a free fm station its really a bitch when you travel, or something happens messing up your signal.

I believe its only a single set station....Its not like a wireless one where you can set the station. I wanted to do this to the wife's car, but she was pissed we had to buy a second part, so she gave up...

Uh, yeah, the one in that link does.

"Design: This adapter is uniquely designed to allow a selection of stations on the Drive + Play rather than requiring adjustments behind the car's radio."

and from Crutchfield's description of the same item

"Just connect your iPod, tune the FM radio to one of the preset frequencies, and you're ready to go."

i just bought an audiovox fm modulator and a gm antenna adapter cable at circuit city and try to hardwire my zune that way. the modulator is supposed to block all fm signals with the flip of a switch so the sound quality should be good.
