Parking Lights

Wire the demon eyes into the parking lights, or stick them on a different toggle switch on the inside of the car.

easiest way would be with relays use the drl as a "reverse trigger"

Do explain this reverse trigger. I'm interested in this for my gauge setup I'm working on

well would it hurt to have the leds on and the hid on at the same time?

It shouldn't. The lights should over power the LEDs anyway.

Use the DRL circuit as the trigger for your demon eye relay. So during the day your demon eyes will be on and once it gets dark, the drls/demon eys shut off and your hids will turn on

as long as the voltage is 12v or less, you could use a suitable microchip that has a "XOR" gate. Tap one input to the lights, and the other input to the power supply, then wire the output of the gate to the demon eyes.

The XOR gate will have a high output when one of the two inputs is high, but when both are high the output will be low.

Not sure if this is the route you want to take but there are some kits that are relatively cheap that you can use to accomplish this with minimal wiring. It may sound kinda complicated, but I assure you its not.
