Need some advice!

I am running a Alpine SWR-1242D 12" Type-R with a Alpine MRP-M500. And my head unit is Pioneer AVH-P4200DVD. And the sub is in R/T 300 Enclosure Series (318-12 Alpine)

My headunit sub setting is at 0 and amp isn't turned up but maybe a 1/4 of the way. My sub gets really hot and starts smelling so i have to shut the sub off. The sub is ran parallel. I figured this sub could handle everything the amp has to give. What am i doing wrong.

Thanks

Sub moves pretty good i don't believe its maxing out. Im absolutely positive that my sub is ran correctly. and here is a pic of what my amp settings are.

The sub is a little over a year old.

if i could throw something at ya, i had a type r sub in one of my old cars and that thing on a 1 hour drive of letting it rip on a 500 watt amp that it blew up and when i got back to work, (where i am an installer, i do this for a living) the sub was so hot that i couldn't even touch it to take it out of the box! my personall opinion, alpine is junk! the x line is the only nice line that they have to be honest! but that is just me!!

You have no subsonic filter on that amp and you're using a vented enclosure...there's a problem...
