new amp with stock alternator.
new amp with stock alternator.
I have the stock alternator...which i think ids 75 amps. I wanted to buy a new amp that would push around 1000 watts. But they say that you have to upgrade your alternator to like a 200 amp alternator. Has anybody isntalled a sound system that exceeds 1000 watt amp...and had to change there alternator?
i had 1500 watts on a 9 year old cavalier alternator. U can upgrade but its not gonna do anything if you dont besides the lights will dim a little bit whenever it hits real hard but thats about all
Not to jack the thread but if i run both these amps i should be cool?

You need power to make power. Doesn't matter how much power if you unless you have the back up power necessary to perform correctly. But to answer you question, yes you can. You may occur problems down the road but a average 1000 watt amp will pull about 30 amps of current. Usually i would say purchase a 1 farad cap after 800 watts. anything exceeding the 1500 watts "true power" i would just go with a additional battery cuz a cap isn't going to do much. Going back to what I said ealier, it's going to eventually weekend. You wont see any issues till down the road. Pending on why you are looking at 1k power? it's to be determin. What do you have in mind?
a battery is nothing more than a rather large cap, when the car is running its purpose is to help smooth out the ripples from the ac to dc conversion from the alt. If you are going tho run a system big enough for a second batt you should just upgrade your alt since that is what is supplying the power, not the battery.
