Are there any cheaper kits out there that will work? I saw one at best buy but it didn't have anything for the 05-06 on the package so my buddy didn't buy it for his car. I think it was under $100.

These kits aren't that expensive. But you need the module and the install kit to make it work.

module:

Personal Audio Link (Requires Install Kit)
Part Number: 19201495

Dealer Price $70.00 List Price $100.00 Trade Price $85.00
Required Items. See Details.

Link Your AppleŽ iPodŽ w/ Your Factory Radio (w/ RPO Code US8, US9, UVA, w/o RPO Code U1C, Navigation Radio) Module Only, Requires Installation Kit

Personal Audio Link provides full "read" functionality* of the iPod, such as sorting by category (genre, playlist, artist, album, song, podcast or audiobook) and shuffling songs/titles within a selected category. The iPod-PAL connection is concealed inside the glove compartment (or auxiliary glove compartment, depending on vehicle) so there are no messy extraneous wires. The iPod also charges while connected to the PAL with the vehicle on.

*iPod settings and content cannot be changed using the PAL.

And the install kit:

Personal Audio Link Installation Kit
Part Number: 19212084

Dealer Price $41.30 List Price $59.00 Trade Price $50.15
Required Items. See Details.

Personal Audio Link Installation Kit (w/ RPO Code US8, US9, UVA, w/o RPO Code U1C) Installation Kit Only, Requires Module

Installation Package must be used with Personal Audio Link (PAL) 19201495. Installation Package contains the wiring, instruction sheets and owners manual only.

Man I wish I knew the part number for just the Ipod-->GMLAN cable by itself. Mine took some damage when I relocated the unit a few months ago.

It looks like RJ-45 to an ipod cable, buy and ipod cable and splice an RJ-45 adapter onto it. But make sure to match the pins. I mean I may be wrong but it looks that the black box labeled GM is the interpreter for the ipod so it may work.

Actually the RJ-45 part of it is perfect, its the ipod side that isnt lookin too hot. It works fine, its just a little beat up and the cable is knicked in a couple spots.

Try to make your own cable.

Needed
1. Ipod cable
2. RJ-45
3. Crimper
4. Paper
5. Pen

Match the pin outs, or is the RJ-45 not clear. You might be bale to find schematics online

Edit: Pinout for 3rd Gen

Side Note: thanks I found other pinouts I needed.

It's clear, I should be able to duplicate it.
