New system on the way, Have a few questions.

I used to work at Circuit City so I took advantage of the discounts while I could. I had a 97' Firebird that I traded in for my 09 SS but I kept my amps/subs out of it for use in my Cobalt. Here is what will be going in the balt:

A new Pioneer AVH-P3200BT head unit
Polk DB6501 component's up front
Polk DB691's in the back
They will be driven by my old Kicker ZX350.4
Two of my old 10" L7 subs that will be driven by my old ZX1500.1

I had 4 Polk db675's in my Firebird that I actually took out of my first car. They lasted me about 4 years and took a lot of abuse. They still sounded great the day they got traded in with the Firebird which is why I went with Polk's for the speakers. I hit 138.8DB on the meter we had in the shop at CC and I was quite happy with everything when all was said and done.

Anyway on to the questions. I don't believe in using caps. I had a high output alternator in my Firebird to help deal with the 1800 watts of power. I am assuming I will have to do the same thing here as well. Anyone know what the stock alternator is capable of handling? I'm sure ill find out when I get everything hooked up... just trying to do a bit more planning.

Second question. I will be running all new speaker wire. I know I'm going to lose my door chimes but whatever. Do I have to do anything with the amp or can I leave everything as it is? I'd prefer to not hack up any factory wiring if possible just in case I have to return it to stock for some reason.

Last question. If I remember correctly the tweeters in the Pioneer system are 3/4". Will the 1" tweeters fit without any or much modification or should I be planning on some custom fabrication work?

Thanks for any help you guys can give.

you will need to mod the tweeter pods to make the new ones fit, did you work in the install bay over there?

Ok good to know. I didn't actually work in the roadshop but I was close with a bunch of guys who did. As a matter of fact one of them who did work in there is getting married in a few months and his whole wedding party is people from our shop. They were actually the #1 roadshop in Circuit City for a long time because they were more then people who worked together, they were a group of really close friends as well. I'm actually having the one who is getting married make me a box since I had a custom one in my Firebird. I might make him do the tweeter pods as well now.

I actually am going to be putting a yellow top in since I have my old one still. Id imagine the big three is kind of a pain since the battery is in the trunk. I do have my 0 gauge wire as well from my last install so running that is always a possibility. I'm sure its way overkill but I'm fine with that.

the only reason i'm asking is because your plan to run new wires isnt bad but for the front at least you have to mess with the car. your options are tapping or cutting the speaker wires after the amp. or drilling the molex plug that runs into the door. or just popping it off and leave it hanging which i would recommend against. unfortunately the amp is in a fucked location otherwise i would say just get some t taps and tap the speaker wires with the plug disconnected at the amp and use speaker wire harnesses at the speakers. then to go back to stock you would just have to unplug the new wires from the ttaps plug the amp back in and unplug the speaker harnesses and plug the stocks back in

if you really want to see crazy **** check out my pictures. you can see most anything you need to audio wise with the car (not saying ive done everything but i have alot of pictures)
