Possible alternate amp bypass method.
Possible alternate amp bypass method.
I have been researching and reading and I am about to install my complete stereo system in my ss with the factory pioneer stereo.
After doing some looking around at the amp bypass and audio pinpoints I was originally going to run my own wires for my component set but have been thinking of just using the factory wiring from the factory amp into the doors. It occurred to me that in the pinouts sticky it looks like the connector that has the wires we need to tap into to bypass the amp is the same connector that is used for the factory h/u.
I have not physically checked this as of yet but plan to this weekend. If in fact they are the same connector then I see no reason why the same metra or scosche wiring harness can't be used on this same plug instead of having to either cut it off or use unsightly and sometimes poor connecting wire taps. Of course these wiring harnesses will have to be repinned to match the amps wiring scheme but that isn't too difficult.
I thought it might be worth a look.
Four wires in the harnesses themselves beyond the typical white, grey, green and purple would be needed for the factory tweeters but there would be plenty of unused accessory, ground, battery, and amplifier turn on leads that could be used for them.
Anyone have any thoughts?

Just tap the wires at the amp and run wires from the new HU to the speaker wires at the amp and done. Or if you really want to be lazy and are confident find the speaker wires at the amp and connect them with the speaker wires from the HU then install metra harness as normal and tada (its alot harder then it sounds thou... i mean its easy for me and easy to explain but in all reality...)
I'm going to most likely wind up running my own wires into the doors anyway. I like overkill when it comes to wiring so in the last two vehicles I have installed in its been 14 or 16 gauge wire to the mids and 18 to the tweeters from the crossovers. Just not looking forward to pulling off all the trim to have access under the carpet, afraid of breaking clips. Also usually run 2/0 welding wire for power simply because I have it but since the battery is in the trunk in this car I'm only going to use that for the big 2/3. Won't go through the trouble of running it all the way to the trunk since I only run at max around 400 watts rms even though all my amps combined are capable of over 1500 rms.
