problem with capacitor

I have a tsunami 5 farad capacitor hook to a kicker amp 1500x1 and 2 kicker L5's. the problem is the capacitor will make the amp cut on and off when the bass hits hard. I bypassed the capaitor and everything works fine. that is how i know it is the problem. what could it be?

Either the cap is defective or the internal connections (where you screw the wires into the cap) are loose from the body of the cap.

If you can wiggle the pos. or neg. or both blocks that you connected your power and ground to, that might be it.

To actually fix your problem, you need to wire it parallel. Battery to POS side, then a wire from the POS of the cap to the amp. And of course ground off the NEG side of the cap to the chassis of the car.

Sounds like he has it wired so the ground goes to the amp. Bass hits, power shuts off because the cap no longer has power. He said if he takes out the cap it runs fine, so the amp is fine. So its either his wiring or the cap, and I'm pretty sure, its the wiring. Because the amp wouldn't shut off if the cap was defective because it would still get power from the battery.

However with the power line from the battery going through the cap first, if it were a loose connection inside the cap, this would also cause it.

I would ditch the cap regardless.

caps are good for one bass note. then they turn into big resistors.

get a bigger alternator. the end.

to let you know it wasnt the wiring. i had a stringer 1.0 cap laying around and decided to try it. turns out i works with no problems. i think it is just a bad cap because i return it twice and got new a new one each time.

The problem was probably to do with the size of the cap... for what you are running 1.0 is definitely plenty. 5.0 would probably require at least 5000W++... but hopefully all works now.

look at the prices. a 10f cap for the same price as a good fosgate or stinger 1f? they are built like **** really. One guy at the shop is using a lanzar specifically as a d block since he was mounting his amp on the roof late at night and wanted to finish up. I told him to just grab a regular 1f but nope. Now hes having issues since its so shitty (he knows/knew from the beginning and its temp until he orders the fosgate one)
