i think it's a good idea, kind of a cool factor thing, not really practical, but i want to do it, like i said hide the key cylinder and just have the start button showing.

why pull the entire current system?
why not USE the current system, and merely mask it/hide it permanantly engaged....
and use a proximity setup to engage the hidden system......

gotta think outside the box fellas

now if you converted your entire ignition system to a proximity key, with push button start....id have to say that would be very cool
I think it can be done if with parts from the vette, i have been pondering on weather or not to do this but i think it would be a nice mod done the right way.

well a key for the vette at the dealer is a few hundred bucks...

Now imagine what it would cost for the whole setup........

also I am sure the Vette system, perhaps even ours who knows, is wired into the BCM and perhaps even a computer or two..

and all for what, so you can push a button instead of turn a key...

Pointless, nobody is going to be impressed by that........you will still have to use a key.....

As I said before I would spend my money on the motor, or the junk interior we all have....

If its what gets you off then by all means, spend the grand plus to do it.....It would surly be different....

I have a connection to get the parts cheaper, or you find one in a junk yard.....but like i said, im still pondering, and that it would look better in a fiberglass interior.

remove key tumbler,
mount underneath dash with key in ignition in run position.
Find main power feed wire for key in run position,
split wire and run through junction switch,
create/buy cheap proximity switch system that will activate junction switch,
mount start button.

end.

c'mon guys you should already know the answer to why do it. of course it's not gonna make your car faster etc. stop being ignorant. if the user wants to do it and it makes him happy then shut your mouth lol. i for one think it's cool as ****. on my next car i will have it for sure. but i was definitely looking into the proximity key system along with it.

(SHOW all your friends and car finatics that wont care, and ask why you went through the hassle, priceless. )

Come on guys, there has to be other mods you can spend your time and effort doing? This is pointless, and good luck finding a wrecked Vette with keys to go with it, with the needed accessories still in there) Spend your time modding your stereo, or covering the door panels, or something that will make the car look good................ to each his own though...........it would be unique.......even if your the only one that will think so...

I totally agree this is a 'Show Car' mod, and wouldn't do it unless I was building the car into 'Show' quality, which i'm still pondering.

mount the push button start in the tumblers old position.
I think youd be quite surprised how simple/cheap it really is.

you guys are so narrow minded, why would you go buy an expensive premade system?

think outside the box.
tell me, have you ever heard of an invisible dog fence?

ohhhhhh i bet that turned a lightbulb on in the attic didnt it?

*rollseyes* i have no interest in this mod, im just trying to help those who do.
dont completely discount the idea just because you cant think of clever alternate ways to do it without dropping huge $$.

Wanted to ask would that mean the car would have to be in the run position and 'ON' at all times to work? Don't think I would like that, that's why the Vette's system would be best, I'm one if your gonna do it do it right, and would rather pay more for better quality. But again this would only be IF I dump thousands into having a top show car, this mod would put you over another car in a contest no questions.

the biggest problem with doing this modification is that the cobalt doesnt have PASSLOCK which someone stated....it has a system known as PASSKEY III it is a complex system using the body control module BCM. to crank the starter. If anyone here has put in a remote start you know what i am talking about. The key has a transistor inside. There is not your normal Start, Ign 1 Ign 2 and ACC wires. there are just 2 key sense wires that know if the key is present and turned to the on position, the BCM will send signal to the starter. Maybe if you used a remote start system and set it up with a nice push start button it would work

Now that would be clean to. And would be safer on a manual car than using the remote to start it if installed, but you could still use both
