Question about speakers

Ok, so i'm a total and complete newb in the world of speaker, amps, etc... if speakers that are in a box have their own drivers, do you need an amp too? or is that what the drivers are? sorry for the stupid question, if someone else posted this i would probably tell them to search... i didn't find anything though

hope this helps not sure exactly what you mean by driver but im guessing the driver is the speaker itself not an amp.

and amp in box really depends on the box... there are some powered boxes out there but most dont have any amps

Speakers and drivers are the same thing. Drivers are just a term for speakers.

Every speaker aka driver, needs an amplifier. Some products like the infinity basslink have a speaker and amp in a single enclosure but the amp is still required.

So your car has 4 drivers (speakers) and the head unit (radio) is the amplifier for them

What he said. Driver is often used by audiophiles and enthusiasts, both in the home audio and car audio world. It is derived from the fact that the speaker is 'driven' by the voice coil as the speaker plays. Also, more specifically, the motor/voicecoil can be called a driver by itself in subwoofers, such as the Solobaric X system, and other field dressed subwoofers.

The speakers need the amplifier to provide power to them in order to 'drive' the speaker. Your head unit is the amplifier in a stock system, and in premium stock systems, they will use and external amplifier to power the speakers and/or subwoofers.

D4, are you in the market to upgrade?
