Question Radio Power

Somebody has got to be able to help me. I just my Base model Cobalt 2 days ago and am trying to figure out how to power a new radio. I was told i have to find an accseory that only turns on when the car is on. The harness I got fits but the red power wire is seperate so i don't know how to power it. I don't understand why i can't just use the same power source the stock one uses. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had that same problem too. It wasn't just an easy install putting a new cd player in. On the wiring harness that I got to hook it up with it explained how to do it and everything so I just followed what that said. But it sucks cuz the stereo won't turn on until the key is in the on position and with automatic lights that gets annoying if your just sitting there fiddling with your cd player or whatnot. Ive tried looking for fuses that have power when it is in the ACC position but I havent had any luck either.......

I used a voltage tester and tested all of them that I thought would be a possibility, I just dont want to have to run that ACC power line into the engine to hook to a fuse there, there has to be an easier way.

yo man i just installed my deck, you hook up the battery wire to the red one thats your constant 12v, now you also need a remote/acc 12v which will turn it on and off, the original got its acc 12v i beleive through the lan wire which once you install an after market deck that wire will be useless, all you have to do is open the fuse panel on the passenger side, below the fuses there are a few wires coming out of a box, i just used my meter and tested them and immedietly found a remote 12v, i just spliced into that wire and everything works great, i only had to run like 2ft of wire its so easy, anyways lemmi know how it goes hope that helps homie...pce

what?
are you an idiot?
you tap into the wires that are int he dashboard, or use the fuseblock
and the battery is in the trunk

maybe you shouldnt be installing anything if you're so clueless

Im not clueless, I did do what you were supposed to, I was just posting to see if anyone could give me a quick heads up as to which fuse to plug into, so that I didnt have to go testing the whole car. My stereo works fine, just doesnt come on in the ACC position that is all. It is merely a convenience question so no need to jump all over me......but thanks for the heads up Lorenzo ill give that a try

I know on the Cavys the brown wire at the ignition switch is the ACC power for key on backward and in Run position. Don't know if they wired it the same way at that point, but wouldn't hurt to try.
