Silver Metra Dash Kit
Silver Metra Dash Kit
I'm looking at getting a in dash NAV/DVD unit and I'm researching dash kits. Metra has a new one that's painted silver, they say to match factory colors. Has anyone else used this dash kit? How close is the color match to the silver trim on an SS? The part number is 95-3302S, here's a link to an eBay auction with a picture: ebay link.
I like the idea of having a silver dash kit but if the color doesn't match perfectly I think it might be better to just have a black one...

So I received the silver dash kit today and installed along with my new Pioneer AVH-P3300BT. The install went very smooth although I did have to remove the support brace at the back of the dash as the unit wouldn't fit with my RCA cables installed. I unbolted and sliced away the plastic in front of it with the hot knife attachment for my soldering iron then unbolted the brace with the 3 bolts.
I also installed a Metra Axxess ASWC steering wheel control box. This was replacing a PAC SWC box that I used with the old head unit. The install was simple and it automatically detected the car and the head unit, however it had the band and preset buttons reversed. I followed the directions to manually program it since I wanted it to be perfect and that went fine.
I also installed this video bypass set from eBay. The bypass is just a simple relay but I figured instead of wiring up and having a clunky relay I'd just get this one for $10 shipped to my door. Install was easy and it works.
At some point I need to find an easy place to tag a wire that gets hot with the dash lights to turn on the dimmer. Any ideas?
Coincidentally, today was the 6th anniversary of the day I picked the car up. I've had the same Alpine head unit in the car since it was brand new, so this will be a nice upgrade and a nice present for the car after 6 years.
Anyway, it looks pretty good with the silver dash kit.
