i think i know what your talking about even tho i havnt seen mine. from the wires to your spearker wires has a speical connection clip thingy. What you can do is either cut connection off of both of them and just connect red to red and black to black. or you cut the connection off your speaker side and connect that to your new speakers and connect that to the other connection.
can somebody back me up here cuz im not 100% sure .

okay, this is really easy guys
when i installed my door speakers, i clipped the connectors off the stock harness.. leave enough room on the clip end of the wire so you can reconnect them at a later date if need be. on the left door, the wires are light green and dark green. connect the light green wire to the red connector on the speaker, and the dark green to the black connector on the speaker. you can double check the polarities by looking up by the tweeter on the door, and you'll see the green wires plugging into the red and black wires for the tweeter.. on the right door, the process is the same, but the wires are grey and dark tan. grey goes to red, dark tan goes to black.
simple as that, and my rockfords sound amazing

McPhatty's right. The wiring is very easy, you just have to cut it. The stock speakers are 6 1/2" and not 5 1/4". I was able to fit my 6 3/4" MB Quarts in the door with no problems at all, and I was able to use the factory holes for the 4 screws.
See, it's funny cause when I took out my speakers there wasn't four holes to mount the speakers on.... hense where my problem was.... the speaker itself was a weird shape and everything... it was like a speaker + fitting adapter all in one... it was retarted. My door speakers were also 4 ohms, which I know people have been saying theirs were 2 as were their back speakers. I really must have gotten the most retarted Cobalt on the market cause it doesn't match up with anything anyone else seems to have gotten thus far. Anyways, speakers are mounted, I had to tap mounting holes into the steel of my door, and it's there for now and later on I'll go back and get it professionally done... thanks for the input.

my base model coupe had 6.5s in the front.... i held them up to eachother and they were the same i drilled holes in the metal to mount them. why mount smaller speakers to have it held on by 2 screws and rattle to hell?
Mine had 5.25, I held 'em up to each other too.... and like I said I've got an off the wall car aprently, with my 8ohms back speakers and 4 ohm door speakers, but atleast I'm not the only one who had to drill holes.
J, still meaning to get inside my door for pictures (I plan on replacing the speakers again with components in a couple of months after I get some wheels and tires, and maybe the short throw & Intake.)

Hey you just have to cut a little adapter in 1/2 MDF,drill the diameter of your new speaker in it and screw the adapter in the factory holes.Clean cut no metal vibration no rattles and just be sure to put some dynamat like(or anything like this) between the adapter and the door.
This a great custom job very fun to make
