Sony Amp compare?

I've been looking for a Amp for the G/F's car and was thinking about going with the same Manufactuer as I'm using, JBL, and using their GTO755.6 II for running her 4 corners and a 10" sub. I was going to mount it on a slide out tray below the back deck and Paint the end caps to match the Car (Red) along with red Neon, but I found a Sony Amp already in red for a good price....If you guys could give me some opinions on them I would apreciate it. Or any other options.

Sony Amp XM 7557 ES

JBL GTO755.6 II

Honestly, when it comes to car audio and audio quality, stay away from Sony. But of course, I don't know what you want for your girls car as far as spending money wise and how many amps you're looking for.

This is my opinion though.

You are not going to see the actual power either of those amps claim. They are both rated at the 14.4V and most cars will not run at 14.4 V constant power, especially when the system is at high levels. When you drop your voltage down to about 12.x where your system will probably be running (unless you do some major charging system upgrades) you may loose any where between 10-25 W RMS. The sub level will probably loose more wattage than the front/rear output will.

Sony is not bad I don't know where this stigma came from. They are almost exactly what they claim to be rated for. They are not underrated like alot of the high end companies may be, but they are within 5 W with all that I have seen actually tested and have heard others being tested near exact. They are deffinatly not over-rated like the very low end crap amps out there are.

Last time I got the meter out, my Cav was giving 13.8 -14.2 from the alt. Is that not normal? Anyway, I like some sony products, mostly there home theater products (High end stuff) and I do know that some of there ES equipment for the car is pretty good. I can live with 65-70 watts RMS, As far as the rest goes, I need a couple good sets of Components for the Sony amp, and I need a sub too.

I'm thinking of going with a Pioneer Shallow mount 10" sub at 250 Watts RMS, and putting it in the factory location and the box (sealing it up nice and tight though)

Thanks for the reply.

Yeah it is one of those skinny ones, and we have been selling them like hot cakes at the place I work for, all of the ones that I have heard have sounded really good for there enclosure, space, and power. I've been impressed with them. I've only got about 250 watts RMS to give it.
