SS vs, Non-SS head Unit - the same???

I have a 2006 SS Supercharged, and the stereo is starting to bug out on me... the display goes all funky and all of the cells start to light up. It's intermitant, and the audio is unaffected, but sometimes you can't tell what station or source you're on.

Anyways, I'm looking to replace it. I already know I can't get a 2007+ style stereo, but I was wondering if the Pioneer stereo in my car uses a different head unit than the regular stereo. Prices on eBay are about $50 more an SS stereo, so I want to be sure.

Thanks.
