i had an mp3 headunit in my car before i got my new one i went to put it in my girlfriends car and it says locked when i plug it in how would i get it to work in her car dealership? both cars are 06 cobalts mine is the ss hers is the ls

You have to get it unocked at the dealer I think. Some stock radios have theft lock and some don't

 

i had a feeling i was going to have to take it to the dealer that sucks

 

all the radios are programmed with the VIN so they must be unlocked by the dealer

 

Yeah I had to get my 09 HU unlocked to get it to work in my 07. All HU nowadays are programmed with the car's VIN so they'll always have to be dealer unlocked.

Side note: If you're going to go ahead and install your HU in your gf's car permanently, you may find it'll sound quieter in her car than yours, since she won't have the amplifier that you do. The mp3 units put out a line level signal that goes to the amp before going off to the speakers, while hers will power the speakers directly.
