Sub in place of spare?

I found one topic of this, but the only person who did it was Spun, and that setup had no floor - therefore the polar opposite of what I want.

Yeah so Im taking out my spare (AAA) and I was also going to stick a 12 in the trunk.
I thought WAIT - Im going to have a big sub in my trunk blocking my beloved trunkspace - and then Im going to have a big empty 20x20in. space right UNDER the floor THATTT I cannot even get to with the sub on top of it!? Waste

Get my point? I figure it valid. Anyone ever put a sub there? I initially thought it would be easy as sticking a shallow enclosure under - but I forgot the sub would need to breathe. I thought I could make a newer thicker board as the trunk floor that has a sub hole (been done duh) but maybe a box enclosure under it? Cause all of the ones Ive seen have fiberglass enclosures - no way. Anything?

I wont do it if it's some state-of-the-art never-been-done stuff because Im just not handy enough for some brilliant unprecedented engineering poo that I see so often. Any ideas? Anyone to shoot the whole thing down?

If u got thicker wood for the floor you could just cut the hole in the floor mount the sub and have an infinite baffle set up with no box

^^ Don't do it.
This was popular in the late 90's around here.
The only car I ever herd sound nice by doing this was a 300zx with a 15" AVI.
Every other car sounded like **** including about 4 or 5 of my buddies.
You want subs, but you want to keep your trunk space.
Even if you put the sub in the floor, you dont really want **** flying around back there, even with a cage over the sub, you still don't want grocery's or golf clubs laying on top.
Then theres the amp, even if you mount it to the back seats, all it takes is a piece of metal 1 1/2" long to short it out, belt buckle, binder rings.

You should just get one of those fiberglass pods that sit in the back corner, considering your going to have to re-locate the battery in order to use the spare tire well then it really takes up the same amount of space, mount the amp in the spare tire well where its safe plus close to the battery (less wire)

Convincing. I definitely wouldn't just stick the sub under there with no enclosure or seal but you did really convince me to just keep it up over the floor. Now it seems like its way more trouble than its worth.
It would be nice to have the amp out of the way under the floor too.

Ill just stick it in a nice sealed box though. If Im gonna sub my poo Im gonna try to get the bullet on the original target. I want a good cubic foot of air to try to keep it somewhat linear.

thanks
