Is it possible that i swap out my stock 10" pioneer sub for a harder hitting sub and if so what should i look at for a new sub? Also if i do end up putting a better stock 10" sub in then will i need a new amp? I had a chance on a w7 but i figured that my car would rattle itself apart and that it wasnt a very good idea to invest in a 13.5 W7 one of the best subs on the market. I'm just looking for more bass than stock so if you have any suggestions let me know thanks.

 

honestly that stock sub can prolly handle more power. I would go with a new amp first then a new sub if that isnt good enough. It will be hard to get a sub that matches that enclosure, it was built specfically for that sub and changing it will change the sound characteristics possibly in a bad way.

but who am i to talk the first thing i did was put 2 12's in that i had from my old car lol

yah i havent tore into my factory system and dont intend too lol theres not a whole lot to improve on honestly. you may consider a mono sub amp just for the 10. I believe Infinity or JBL either one have some nice smaller amps for a good price.

Also i know that sub is dual voice coil so you may want to look at how its wired before you go buying another amp.

 

Ive had a few diff set ups in my car (Rockford amp and 12in sub right now) and the balt has proven it self to be pretty tight.

 

lol ya... i can almost garantee that if i were to put my rf 8 in that box it would be at least twice as loud... but to be honest the best thing is to either find a 10 that uses~ .5-.6 cubes sealed and changing it out with a new sub amp or to start from scratch... i wouldnt recommend more power to that sub bc although it could probably handle it i doubt it would be worth the effort and it would probably blow quickly

 

idk...i've never looked at audio as something that you could just upgrade a component and it's better. I guess i always ran under the theory that amps/subs/enclosures should be bought/built to compliment each other.


For example, a different sub isn't necessarily going to use the amps power the same and you'll have paid for the sub but not be fully using it. Find a sub, get a box to match the sub, and then find an amp with an RMS rating as close or a bit higher than the RMS power ratiing of the sub

 

basically you need to find the specs for our setup there might be some info on pioneers website if you go through the link on chevy's website.

If you can get the rms of the sub and amp you will know where you stand and what you can do. I know the sub runs off the rear channel so it really should not be getting a whole lot of power right now. However it might not be able to handle more power either, just depends on the motor setup.

 

Coudl also get another factory sub enclosure and put it on the other side. Then run a amp to power both of the subs. (Think they are 4 ohm DVC so the wiring coudl be done to run them 2 ohm.)

 

I thought of that but the stock sub enclosure only goes one way therefore it wont fit on the other side unless you custom build it so idk what i will do.

 

I have an infinity 10 in the stock box I was curious the other day of how it would sound hooked up to the stock signal rather than my added amp. It sounded a lot better than stock but still needed the aftermarket amp in my opinion

 

I was wondering about putting 2 factory subs and enclosures in a cobalt, I have 2 SS/SC's and one is going to be getting a really nice system, you think it would be good to install the old stock sub into the other cobalt? I can amp them both, but is there away to just add it to the system?

 

do not amp up your stock subwoffer. it is an 8ohm sub and not many amps out their are 8ohm and it is almost at its max power. i poped mine with as 55x2. and it was not bridged. but you can replace the factory 10 with a nother 10. most will require drilling of the box for the sub to lign up with the holes propley. and will require modin of the box it self. the back side of the box needs to be cut to howse a larger maginet. it is not hard but i requimend that you dont let the box melt when you dremil it. it getts every ware. and only cut what you need.



or you could make an adaptor ring. just thought about that now lol.

wrong the factory amp is 2x2 ohm... and since the 6x9s are 2ohm too i belive the sub wasnt bridged
