Swapping stock stereo's

I have an 06 SS/SC and im wanting a headunit with the AUX input, so I can hookup my ipod, But aftermarket headunits in a otherwise stock car, just look weird lol.

So I was wondering what the steps would be to swap out my stock headunit for one like in the G5's or other year balts that have the aux input, I would assume, having not looked at one, that it would plug right in?

My mom has a 07 G5 I could test this theory on.

It's a pain in the ass. The 05/06's are interchangeable. But a 07+ is not worth trying to put in a 05/06. Look aftermarket.

From another thread

On another note...swapping for a radio out of a newer SS/SC would be a pain in the ass. You'd have to rewire your wiring harness, take it to a dealership and get them to reprogram it with a Tech II (there are three ways to program the radio and they have to play with it until one of the three ways works so you'll be there for like 3 or 4 hours while they **** with it and at like $90 an hour it gets expensive really quick), and to top it all off the steering wheel controls are all fucked up and don't work correctly ( like the mute button switches from radio to CD and the preset button mutes the radio or some combination of that). It's really really not worth it...

No, there were maybe 5 people that did it? I remember Silver did it, said what a pain it was, then a couple other people did it as well.

I think only one got it to work with the steering wheel controls by rigging some wiring, maybe that's what you're thinking of? The rest just used the radio minus the controls on the wheel.
