my parents have an acura TL and it has the switchblade. normally when the key is out it locks so it cant be closed. theirs you dont have to press the button to close it. it just closes if you push it.

my dad has the other set of keys that doesnt get used. Acura has Driver 1 and Driver 2 labeled on their fobs. makes me wonder if the key to Driver 2 locks when it is exposed and not movable unless you press the button.

Probably just the same as my envoy. The 1 & 2 just controls the seat & mirror positions so you don't have to adjust them when u get in

yes it does. just buy one, swap the insides and get the key cut. should work. haven't tried it myself but saw some one online on a forum open the blade key and guts are the same as our key fobs

What about something like this? I saw it on tv. It lets you put up to 6 keys in it. Keychain Reinvented - Keyport Slide & Blades | Keyport, Inc.

That's actually pretty trick. Though then you're carrying 2 large fob shaped things in your pocket.

I really like the switchblade key for the newer Camaros. Switching the key blade wouldn't be that hard, would require some grinding and filing to make it fit, then just push out a pin and swap blades. But could the remote be reprogrammed for the Cobalt.
Or would it be possible to change the ignition and lock cylinders to use the existing blade?

None, since the switchblade shell already exists. Current board would fit into new shell. Key would have to be cut, and that's it.

Not really liking this remote, plus mine is only 4 button. And the few places that I looked for it, including Amazon and mykeyless, didn't have them.
I was just curious about using one from a newer model Chevy, if it could be done, to keep things in the family. Plus the switchblade for the Camaro is actually a little bit smaller than our current key fob.

That's kind of what I was thinking, but then you would have the issue with getting the remote programmed and the chip in the key. Would the ignition and lock cylinders from a Camaro or newer Chevy work in the Cobalt? And could the remote be programmed, by a dealer or whatever means? I would be willing to make that change if everything would work, but don't want to spend the money just to find out that it doesn't.

I just received a Keyport Slide 2.0 for my birthday and will be ordering keys for it tomorrow. I'll report back on how it functions but it seems to be a quality piece so far.

Got my black on black Keyport finally setup. Total is $120 plus shipping normally. Really happy I received part of mine as a gift.

They just introduced red as a text and side color, saves you $5. The body is available in black, white, or clear with either red, white (except on white), or black (except on black) text.

Was gifted:
Black on black body: $29
GM key: $25 (comes with a key and chip blade)
Purchased:
Regular key: $5
Flashlight: $10
Bottle opener: $6
32gb USB: $45

When you get your keys cut have the locksmith cut you a regular blank first and check it, I had to get 2 of the blades cut because one locksmith screwed it up. It only cost me $10 to get a fresh new key and my blade cut, now I have like 4 keys for the car. The key takes a tiny bit of jiggling in the door but that's due to the cut not the key itself, the other 2 locks work fine and i have RKE so it's not an issue.

The flashlight is pretty much useless for anything other than finding a keyhole, but it's better than nothing.

The bottle opener is slightly irritating to use since it doesn't lock open, but it works great.

The USB stick is a bit odd to use, it works best in ports where you can slide the keyport all the way up to the port with the blade slightly retracted. The less of the stick you have out the less stress you'll be putting on it.

But all in all I really enjoy it and am happy with my half purchase
