Are you talking about the little panel with a square black painted area just above the climate controls and below the stock head unit? If so that is where the heated seat controls go, or so I'm told.

If you pull the whole face plate off from around the stereo and climate controls it should just be a few screws.'

I haven't taken it off to look, but it looks like it is attached to the frame around the HU and the A/C controls (you may have to punch it out and sand down the sides. I don't like it either, so if you have any ideas on what to put in there, please share

I just had my head unit and an alarm installed and I ended up having the shop mount my LED for the alarm there. It is a useless piece of plastic. It looks like a spacer.

How do you remove the plate surrounding the headunit and HVAC controls?

If I remember correctly it's all held in by clips. I peeked when the installer was putting in my radio and that's all I saw, but I think you have to remove both trim pieces to the left and to the right of the plate.

i haven't done it, but i've seen it taken off on a tv show, and it looks like all the silver trim pieces just pull off (clips)

Is there anyone out there that has a camera and the time, that can do a "How To"... for taking the dash apart?

If you are looking at taking it out to get to your head unit or that dead plate, I saw what it looked like when I had my head unit installed. The 2 trim pieces on either side pull right out by way of clips and so does the radio/hvac trim piece. I did not see any screws that had to come out. Just take it easy and you should be able to do it. If i'm wrong, I'll hide.

I have taken my dash apart it seems like a million times. The two trim pieces do infact pull off, and also the trim around the radio and hvac controls. The only screws that you will get into are underneath all of the trim and in and along the center console. Just be careful with the trim pieces so as not to break them when pulling them off!!
