Tapping into stock sub wiring?????
Tapping into stock sub wiring?????
is there any way to take out the stock sub in my trunk and use the wiring to hook up my own system???? becuase i heard that tapping into the rear speakers sounds like ****!
taking the wires leading to the sub and using them for high-level inputs to an aftermarket amplifier will do nothing different than using the leads to the rear shelf speakers. all the new amp will do is take that signal and reduce the incoming power to a lower level that the amp can use as an input signal, which will be re-amplified (hopefully alot cleaner and more powerful). either way, using the stock wiring to deliver signal to your new amp will not sound that great.
long story short, get a good line driver / signal converter OR just get a new head unit with some rca preouts.

i want to keep the stock deck. so should i buy a line converter and hook it up to that or the rear speakers?
or is there anything else i can do thats better? im not worryed about if its hard to do or not.

yes. buy a line converter and hook it up. if you are gonna take out the stock sub anyways, just use those wires. easier and you wont risk messing up the wires on the shelf speakers. its not hard, its just cutting and splicing the 4 wires that go to the sub. you do need to find a cobalt wiring color chart, it might be posted in the stickies of this forum i cant remember where i saw it, but its around
You are contradicting yourself.
Let me get this straight.
You want a cheap solution with high sound quality....??
If you use a line converter, the sound quality will be what it is.... It will sound "fine" but it will be **** compared to a proper RCA from an after market head unit.

woah woah, we're missing a step or two here.
the stock sub runs 2 x 2ohm coils so that i can run off of the rear two channels. if you just remove it, the rear speakers will not sound correct.
a lot of amps have "hot" inputs on them and it's the same as the line level converter, just built in.
i'd get a small amp that can do that, and see what happens.

i dont care about the money i just want to keep the stock deck because i like its and it had a 6 indash cd player. by the way i have a 2000 watt rms amp from by old car and 2 12in subs. i dont think the box is going to fit though.
another reason is that the car is brand new and i dont have the heart to rip out the deck on it.

the stock sub has nothing to do with how the rear 6x9's perform. its on a completely separate channel on the stock amp.
Brian MP5T is correct. speaker level inputs will not sound as good as RCA pre-outs from an aftermarket deck. but it would probably sound ok with a line converter or an amp with speaker level inputs. just remember, you get what you pay for. theres no cheap way to good sound

as i recall, the rear 6x9 is also a 2ohm model, so that the amp "sees" 4 when it's normally installed... but don't quote me on that.
lol you already stated that you arent going to change the stock deck so why is this conversation going on? Just go with a line convertor like usual and using the rear 6X9s or sub wireing should yeild the same results. Reason why you herd tapping into the rear speakers sounds like **** is because not all converters are created equal and most have adjustable knobs that people will install on incorrect settings for sq
EmperorJJ1: thats what i said.
joeworkstoohard: still, the sub performs on a separate bridged mono channel and has nothing to do with the rear speakers. i have removed my sub on occasions and the rear 6x9s work the same. since they are all 2 ohm voice coils, they cannot be wired in bridged mono to the same channel as the 6x9s. that would cause the amplifier to see a 1ohm load and burn it up. the amp is only 2 ohm stable.
