Are these better than stock?

I have a set of sony xplod 3-way 6x9s that I had to strip out of my truck. Are they any better than the stockers in an 09 SS? lol I know they're by no means great speakers, but I'm not overly impressed by the pioneer system, so a free upgrade would be stellar. They're rated 260Wpk, 80Wrms at 4ohms. Any input would be appreciated

Just keep the Pioneer speakers,I have the pioneer speakers and I upgraded the stock cd player to a Pioeer system. It will bring the pioneer speakers alive.I didn't have the pioneer cd player that was offered from GM,I just had the crappy cd player. If you really don't like the Pioneer speakers, just go buy polk audio speakers or better Pioneer ones.Sony isn't what it use to be 12+ years ago.

almost any speaker is better than factory , most factory speakers are a paper cone , so i would say the sonys would be a small step up from factory.

True, thanks. Yeah, I figured they'd be a marginal upgrade if anything without replacing the deck as well. I don't really want to dump any money into a system right now, so I may just try putting the Sonys in for a few days and see what it's like. Hell, half the time I just drive with the sound low anyways so that I can hear the turbo whine

Yes, but the factory SS system isn't the same as in your LT. The stock SS Pioneer system is actually extremely good for a factory setup.

are they better then stock? sadly the answer is marginally yes BUT the issue with the swap isnt the speaker but the impedance. stock is 2 ohm and sony is 4 ohm. So with the sonys getting half power its gonna be a downgrade. sorry

This is exactly right. I took some nice polk 6x9s out of my old car when I got my cobalt and was all ready to swap them into the new care to replace the pioneer ones. Then I realized the ohm difference so I went to a local car audio shop and asked about how the stock system works. Turns out that in these cars the head unit doesnt actually power the speakers directly but rather uses built in amps that run only for 2 ohm speakers. So replacing only the speakers would work but would be almost half as loud. To do it right you would have to bypass the amp and hook up another one thats rated at 4 ohms like most are.

i wouldnt say extremely good, and i am familiar with the SS setup....yes it is better than a un-amplified setup , but changing out your speakers and using perhaps an aftermarket amp would be better, and allow for better control of your sound!
