Tweeter issues!

In honor of trick or treat, I got tricked!! I installed my 6.75" component speakers a while ago but didn't hook up the tweeters. I knew the new tweeters were bigger than the oem pioneers so I bought an extra set of sail panels for the doors off an LT to put in my SS. For those wondering, this DOES NOT WORK. The sail panels have a single clip to lock it in place, but it's in a different spot on the LT. Whyyyyy GM!!?? So I paid $25 for the extra sail panels, hole sawed them, mounted the new tweeters and painted them black to match my interior... then I realized they don't fit!

The only option I see at this point is put the SS pioneer sail panels back on the doors and mount the component tweeters in the door panel above the speaker. I just hate doing that because it will look cheesy with pioneer and rockford tweeters on the doors.

For those who have mounted tweeters lower in the doors, was there a noticeable difference in clarity? These rockfords can be aimed in the mount so that may help. Since I'm just about out of options what would you guys do??

do you have a dremel? you can bore out the hole a litte bit and it will clip in. you also have to make a hole in the door panel as well though

That clip seems to be off by over an inch so the dremel wouldn't really be the hot ticket. I never thought of cutting the metal on the door. I have a plasma cutter though, so if I do it that's what I'd use! It's kinda risky chopping holes in the metal, but if I screw up the hole in the door panel I can't just cover that up. So slotting that hole for the push clip idea has promise!

Okay so I took your advice homie! The LT sail panels have the push clip about 5/8" higher. The hole is about 202" wide. I took a drill bit that was .204" and drilled a hole where the top of the clip would go. Then I used a dremel to saw vertical slices up to that hole. They fit like a glove now. I'll make a new thread once I clean the car up with pics and details.

Finally got all my amps, speakers and wiring done. I LOVE MY CAR AGAIN!! Thanks for the help in all my threads Emp. It's basically all fosgate PRIME entry model stuff but even that made a huge clarity difference. I'm hearing things I didn't know were in my favorite songs heh. Love it!
