valentine 1 radar wont detect anything

just got a used valentine from a buddy of mine, ive seen this in action in his car and it worked great...threw it in my car and bam i went past at least 4-5 cop cars today and it didnt make a sound except when I was passing a cop that had already pulled someone over.

i have every window tinted (included windshield) but i was assured that the type of film I got (non-metalized) would not affect radar detectors in anyway...

ive tried it on all 3 modes with the same results everytime...

any ideas??? windows were down the whole time, windshield is 35% and the back 3 are 2 layers of 5%....initally i figured it was cause my back window is sooo dark but even when i was trailing a cop today...it still wouldnt pick it up.

any ideas? im leaning towards tint but everyone says non-metal is fine for radars.

uhh you know just because you pass a cop doesn't mean they have their radar ON.

Radar Dector does NOT equal Cop Detector. Just remember that. I'm sure it's working properly. At least 1/2 the cop cars I pass don't have radar on. I rely more on my self than my radar for seeing cops (at least in the areas I know). It's just something that helps. And remember a cop doesn't need to have his radar on to tell if you're speeding or not. A buddy of mine couldn't get that concept in his head and wound up with a speeding ticket lol

Wait until you find out about the joys of rolling radar.

My cousin is a cop. I did a 'ride-along' with him one night in hopes of seeing how the 'other side' works. He said some cops are lazy and just leave their radar on... But other 'gung-ho' cops leave them off and have a toggle switch that it actually connected via a wire to their radar. They can leave it in their lap and when they see a car they suspect is going a tad bit faster than it should...they can FLICK IT ON... and nail you just like that.

So a radar detector isn't a freedom guarantee to speeding. it's simply a tool to use to lessen the chance of you getting nailed. OR..as some people say it's just a TICKET INDICATOR..that let's you know when you've been nailed.

That's all a radar detector is. It detects radar. And by the time the detector goes off the officer has already hit you and knows what your speed is.

Yes, but how far they detect the radar is the key. This summer I drove across the US from Arizona to Ohio. A LARGE part of that was spent in the triple digits. I lost count of the times when it went off.... I slowed down.... only to find the trooper 3 or more miles down the road.

If you have a QUALITY radar detector, they can save you. A cheepie for 100-200$ isn't going to do that.

Now lasers..that's as you mentioned above. The "beam" on a radar is wide...and gets substantially wider the further away you are from it. Making it easier to detect. Lasers on the other hand are a pin-point accurate speed detector. If you get pinged by them and you're going too fast...TOO LATE.

There is a FIX for lasers though.

1st, it is illegal to "Jam" radar. It's a big no-no. However, it's perfectly legal to have a laser jammer (in most states) With a good radar detector, and a laser jammer, your chances of being able to sustain a speed are much greater.

hmm, i do know that they dont detect cops, just their radars but he lives in a diff city (ballwin) and when i drove with this thing there it went off everytime a cop was in sight. what im thinking is some cities/cops just leave it on all day and like was said before some turn it off and on throughout the day....

Thats what I meant by rolling radar, I have a detector myself, the other night I'm on my way to a buddies, it was dark so I couldn't see what kind of cars were coming at me just headlights, all of the sudden the detector starts freaking out, lucky for me I wasn't speeding but he waited until he was 500 yards away from me, turned it on, found out I wasn't speeding and turned it back off again, all before I could even tell for sure it was a cop coming at me (we were like the only cars on that section of road) or one hiding in a bush or someones driveway up the street.

Either way there good for certain types of radar traps, but cops will always find a way to exploite any weakness in radar/ lazar detectors, so in the end its just providing a false sense of security, Plus in the US the cops can give you a ticket by pacing you with there car or I herd even planes, in which case there would be no radar to detect, glad they don't do that **** here...yet.

Yeah, if I'm the only car on the road I DEFINATELY know that the RD isn't going to save me.
