VSS Speed Sense wire for Pioneer GPS Stereo installations

Hey Cobalt SS peeps!

I am new to Cobalt SS (I'm from G5Club.net) - I added my account here to hopefully get a bit more information on my post below. Sorry for the repeat thread... I have been at this for quite some time now with no luck and I'm eager to get this wiring working!

My deck is the Pioneer AVIC 930 BT - w/ the pink speed sense wire... In the connections settings in the deck it says "0" even after I connected the yellow wire as specified...

I'm sure that someone else out there has a Pioneer deck and has had the pink VSS (Variable Speed Sensor) wire up. I have done lots of research on the matter and am leaning towards connecting it to the wiring harness in the ECM.

I have taken the 3 posts below and tried applying them to my install with no success. Possibly Pontiac is different then Chevy when it comes to this type of wiring.

Please see:

Tap VSS for Nav from behind gauge cluster? - Cobalt SS Network

I have tried tapping into the YELLOW wire in the bottom harness as recommended with no success. see pic below...

In that 3rd harness note there is a second yellow wire in a twisted pair though. see pic below - note my cam flash washed out the yellow color in that twisted pair but it is plain bright unmarked yellow.... I just feel strongly against using it as its the only wiring clearly paired up with another one (purple).

I have also tried connecting to the only yellow wire in the first harness.

The second harness has 3 solid yellow wires... It may be one of them??? Please anyone help me i'm losing my mind hooking up random yellow wires... Im also worried I will fry something if I keep probing...

ANYONE????

just make it eaiser on yourself, the wires your trying to tap are 5v wires, so your not getting a ggod enough signal on your deck, this harness, yes its kinda expensive, but its got hookups for all the wires for vss, parking break and revers. just hook the deck harness to it, and plug it into the factory harness on the car, and enjoy.

Wait.. if there is a harness that supports VSS, then the wire has to be behind the deck...?

Thanks for the false info buds. There is no VSS wire that is dedicated to the radio. Any and all required info for the radio is sent through the CAN BUS High and Low speed wires. The Radio has a chip in it to decode the information. Hence. CAN BUS is Binary (1's and 0's), speed sense is pulse.

OP, you posted this question in the FB group I do believe. Just tap into the actual sensor off of the transmission. If you are set on tapping into the wire just off of the ECM. then get yourself a DMM and check which wire has continuity. Problem solved. I don't buy into this "Just tap the yellow wire" nonsense, as my car has 4 yellow wires on the bottom harness alone.

hey, I don't post things I don't know about, but for your information, this kit has a box on it that decodes the canbus signal, how do I know, cause I just got one for the car that I just put a dvd player in, and when I put the parking brake on, the dvd will play on the screen, till its taken off.

I"m just saying its a better option to spend the money on this, casue it eaiser than running wires from inside to the outside that can get cut from rubbing on the metal and than shorting things out, and than splicing into the engine harness and than after a while the wires corode and you start having problems with your engine.

can op do it that way, yes, this just makes it less of a hassle

Sorry to Necro but I just installed a JVC/Kenwood unit.
I want to hook up my pink speed sensor wire, I have the AXXESS harness, with 2 black boxes. 1 box is for the steering wheel buttons.

I dont have tine instructions since the harness is a few years old and I'm re-using it from my Jensen unit. Everything works, except the speed sensor. GPS still works without it, but I would like tohook it up if I can.

So where on the AXXESS harness do I hook my speed sensor wire?
