What Is Behind The Head Unit & HVAC Controls?
I am trying to build a custom lcd screen that will be inbetween teh stock head unit and the hvac controls. I want the screen to be hidden inside, but dont want to take my car apart to find out how much room is inside of there.
Does anyone have idea if that is space to hold a 7" lcd and a tray? Or pictures of the face of all that removed? The area behind the thing that talks about air bags and seat belt lights? I want to maintian a stock look and finding somewhere pretty to hide this, will be essential. thanks!

you cant fit a 7" screen inbetween the stock HU and hvac controls. You probably could fit one with an aftermarket HU thou (single din) with the pocket cut out. theres not much back there thou. Some stuff so id recommend looking urself but nothing really inbetween the hu and hvac controls

Yea I would look for myself but afraid to tear my car up at this stage of the process. Dont want to get to a point where I am committed due to an error. Below is a sorta concept of what I want.
Let me know if this makes sense. The screen will hang down, not stand up. I want to do this to deter theft and have the DIY high also

I am willing to give up drinks for the save of my lcd. And when i lift the lcd back up, i can use cup holders again!!!
Does anyone have any nay-saying to do? Like "this is stupid" or "yay cool dude"
I mean thinking about taking apart a portable dvd, and then do some extra stuff... Maybe in later stages, make it automatically come in and out. That is way far down the line.

Did you read the part where I said I dont want to be a target for getting my car broken into? I want it to be discrete and continue to look stock. I dont want a busted window and a stolen head unit. Thats all.

it isn't going to be easy i can tell you that. even with my resources i wouldn't attempt it due to the complexity its going to require. Your going to have to determine if there's enough space behind there first... also think of how it would look "closed" You may want to look into a slim line screen only flip up monitor or see if something like that is made.

Tinted windows are a non factor in the daytime. Even with 5% tint. Found some leads and ordered an 8" lcd last night. Going to start work on it after these finals and graduation.

It came in the mail yesterday. Today looking into the stepper motors to move the lcd in and out of the dash. Going to use a servo to lift the screen from 180 degrees to 90*. I may have this finished If i can find all the parts i need now.

If you are afraid of someone breaking into the car.....would it not be worth it to buy an alarm for the car? I really think you are going to have nothing but problems doing this. As was said it is going to be very complex and you are going to be cutting the dash up quite a lot.

i have an alarm already. At least I think i do, w/e came from factory. I don't see how much hacking this is going to be. I was going to mount to the underside of the head unit. And have the lil bar section come down.
You haven't told me where the hacking is going to be... I figure if i can include all the hardware into a wooden ( or similar ) enclosure and just mount it under the head unit, i would save a lot of headaches.

Stock alarm dont do much lol. Save your time and frustration and just buy a double din or single din flip up DVD deck. Easier, faster, cheaper and will look 100x better. I am ALMOST done installing my double din. will post pics tomorrow maybe.
