where to mount 1/2 DIN size EQ ??

Where would be a place to install/ mount a 1/2 DIN size EQ ?? It is a 7-band eq with an aux. input.... It is a Clarion EQs-746. It has one line in, 2 lines out, and a sub out. It had great reviews on amazon. You just push a button (aux. input) to select an MP3 player or whatever.... I am going to run the outputs to amps for front and rear speakers, and prob a sub eventually. Where could this fit on the dash?? I am considering mounting it in the middle of the stereo "bezel" cover....

thats what I was thinking, if you are talking about the air bag light..... on the stereo bezel... Mine is blank, no idiot lights on the dash in my 2006...not sure if it is wide enough... will measure it tonight when I get home from work.... I kind of wanted to mount some switches there instead though... it is a nice plate to drill some 9/16" holes for round rocker switches...any other ideas?? I wanted about 7 switches....that little plastic plate will hold 4 of them...maybe I could re-locate the switches somewhere else.... I have two in the little cubby box by the trunk switch....one in the silver dash trim above that same cubby.... and two in the front cup-holder... but those need to move somewhere else....any way to mount switches in the shifter console without cutting holes in it??

If you are using a single DIN headunit you can put the EQ in the pocket that most dash kits have for the cobalts.

Are you using the factory headunit?

uhhhh yeah.... I guess that would have been important to mention huh.... ...Yes, I am trying to keep the stock head unit for now....I dont see many single DIN replacements as being that much better... maybe a DVD with screen or something someday....trying to put in some aftermarket speakers n amps to get better quality sound first...

Well, I cut my stereo bezel cover to fit the 1/2 din EQ. I had to use a roto zip, sanding block, and a few metal files, but it came out ok. It sits right between the stereo, and the AC controls....It is going to be a Beeittch mounting the EQ somehow... I might just put some rubber foam material under the EQ to "wedge" it against the stock HU...it does not seem to slide much ....no way i can think of how to use the small brackets and screws to fasten the EQ to the plastic tabs under the HU.....it would work if I could somehow get a small screwdriver in there... but it just seems impossible.....I think it will look ok and will be "fairly" secure....the amp under my front seat sort of "floats" around also....not sure how to mount that either...

it may be ghetto but using some sort of plastic spacer and then taping the EQ to the HU with a **** load of electrical tape should keep it in place

Did I read that link at the bottom of your post right?

Do you have four kids and an amp just floating around under the back seat?

Amps mounted under the seat are ment for cars that will never really have people in the back.
Just mount it to the back of the seats in the trunk, nice and neat and out of the way. Its not safe for the kids or the amp to have it under the seat, never mind not secured

fyi theres a **** load of wires under the carpet. do not screw anything to the carpet under the seats... the wiring harness goes thru both sides under the seat along with ur main power wire ect

Yeah, I have a minivan to drive the kids around.....2005 Uplander.....I had to look at one of the first SS Cobalts in the showroom when i was signing the papers for the Chevy minivan....

ANY object that is in the passenger compartment and not secured is dangerous if you get into an accident......groceries, a back pack, a book...another passenger.... and so on.....I have a pretty good idea about how to transport the kids... i am a nationally certified car-seat installer... it is a week long course.....

There was one case we were told about where the wife suffered a lot of injuries from crushing force... her Husband in the drivers seat moved all the way across the car and basically crushed her against the door... she was eventually ok I guess....they did not even know what happened at the time....it is pretty amazing how things move around in an accident....even kids in car seats can move forward a few feet when striking something head-on....

I pretty much drive around in the Cobalt by myself....to work and to run errands....

Mine is cut into my my 1 DIN dash head unit mounting kit. I used a sharpened putty knife and heated it with a propane torch to cut the clearance areas on each side and a small area at the back where the RCA's connect. Here's a pic:

The cord on the right is for my iPod. It's connected to the Ai net input on my "Old school" Alpine head unit.

I like it!! Wish my Clarion EQ pre-amp had red LED's, not blue, for my red cobalt....I do like the unit though... it has an aux in jack on the back... now just need to figure out where to put the cord... I cut a space in the radio bezel, between the stock radio and the heater controls..... it looks ok....scratched the bezel up a little though... and no luck finding a part# for the stock silver paint.....I need to re-route some of the cables and add my aux in cable.. if I ever get a chance to work on it I will post pics when done...

yeah, I just want some touch up paint... wonder if I can take it to the hardware store... not sure if they mix paint color for enamel paint though... not sure what GM even uses ,... is it water based now???

I tried to search on here, but from what I read, GM does not sell matching paint for interiors....how could I color match the paint?? any ideas??

I thought about painting the whole silver part, like you were talking about....but seems like a real pain....

I'm pretty sure he got it color matched at Sherwin Williams. They did custom spray cans for him.
