Whistler XTR-550 Radar Detector

So i found this - http://www.buy.com/prod/whistler-rad...208930678.html - for a really good price, and i'm thinking about getting it. Wanted to know what everyone thought about it - i kno its not the best one on the market. Just wanted to know if you thought it would do the job...

only reason i dont want to spend a lot of money on a good one is b/c i live in virginia, where they are illegal and i dont want to get caught with a nice one. overall - worth the price yes or no. Thanks for the help

In VA, I would not waste my money on it. Whistler is not a bad "cheap" unit. But VA uses the dector, dectors. And it will just keep going off until you get tired or hearing it and just turn it off yourself. That is what I did once traveling through VA with my Escort.

When it detects dector, dectors, it changes frequencies and at that point, it's not pickup up radar anyway. defeats the purpose.

yea...wat about for when i travel out of va? since i really have no need for it (dont really speed that much around here) I only tend to hit higher speeds on the beltway or on the way to the beach, which is all md and de driving...do you think i should go with a better unit, or will this one suffice? I'm not too familiar w/ detectors so any help is appreciated!

In states that don't allow them. I wouldn't bother trying to use one. All are supposed to change frequencies if they are picking up those signals (I believe). But you can always plug it in once you are out of those areas. Like I said my Escort (Passport 5000 at that time) just kept going off an telling me it was changing signals. Got on my nerves quick... Haven't tried it with my 8500x50, but imagine the same would happen.
