Why don't more HUs have front USB ports?
So I'm searching for a HU for my gfs car and I'm amazed at the lack of HUs that have front USB ports. I got this pretty cheap Kenwood KDC-MP438U deck for my car and the USB port is the greatest thing ever invented

Why connect anything through the AUX port when you can connect through USB and have direct control over whatever is connected directly through the HU? I've got an 8GB USB flash drive connected that I picked up for $20 and it works wonders. No need to buy $100+ mp3 players...
Just curious, is this feature not in demand because I think it is the greatest **** ever?!

I have a second car that my GF drives around its a 2000 Prelude and I put that Kenwood HU in and it sucks its a pain the ass just to ajust the bass and treble settings. The unit looks nice but there not so user friendly. Plus 2 volt preouts are killing me.
My DD Hu has a rear usb input that i brought down just above the fuse box where the two panels meet and then I just layed it in the little dip that sits under the lighter/power input right under the stereo, so the flash drive just rests in it

and on the kenwood unit I did have to read the manual to learn how to access some of the options but thats what its there for right...other than that its worked just fine.
for me alteast its usb > aux...throw that aux port in the rear somewhere and leave the usb up front.

I can't really see how a rear USB is even remotely convenient, that either a) eliminates the possibility of a flash drive or b) makes it so that you have to have some ugly wire running back behind your dash

I see what you mean EmperorJJ1 about rear USB if you have a hard drive...I was thinking in much simpler terms though (mp3 player or flash drive).
and anything through the glove box, blah thats the worst of all i actually store things in mine and throwing my mp3 player on top of my registration looks kinda tacky IMO.
seems like I'm the only one that cares for this feature though, no wonder I only find about 1 out of 10 this way

USB ports are nice and all. I'd perfer a rear mounted one as you can pick up an usb extension cable and hide your usb drive anywhere, but I love my SD slot. It's much easier to carry around SD cards.

i just installed a Sony HU with front USB, i love it, but i use a flash drive, no wires except when my kid puts the ipod in the aux jack, but i love the USB port, so much that i removed the CD changer!

even if you're using any form of mp3 player, you're still gonna need an ugly wire running from the HU to the player. so why not out back anyway for the sake of looking clean, and being just as functional, for that application atleast. and as far as using a flash drive, why not just get yourself a usb extention and run it into your glove box? looks clean still and is just as functional...
