Here is the audio wiring diagram for our car

Radio 12v red/white
Radio Ground black/white
Radio Ignition GMLAN Serial Data
Fact. Amp turn on Pink

LF Speaker(+/-) tan/gray
RF Speaker(+/-) lt. green/drk green
RR Speaker(+/-) drk blue/lght blue
LR Speaker(+/-) brown/yellow

Speaker wiring is on harness or amp
The other wiring is on harness

This Helpful?

If you are wondering what wires on an aftermarket plug are the solid blue is remote turn on (for turning on an amp) and blue with white strip is power antennia (cobalts don't have)

Woowoo....got her in and she works like a charm, as does everything else on the car...il take pics when i can find my F'in camera, btw...the aftermarket radio doesnt come on until i turn the key to ignition (just before statring it), assumed that was normal, and when i turn the car off it kills the radio....again not big issues, just varying from the stock h/u....but the speakers sound soooo much better

That is normal for most radios. The sotock one had a timer built in that let it run for a set amout of time or until you open your door. You lose that (as you now know) when you put in a new deck. Do you know what the problem ended up being?

Yeah, i was given the wrong harness which had just so happened to fit the plug and looked somewhat like it would work, since i hadnt wired a cobalt before...either way it was a harness issue and everything works great now....accept when i go to put the new deck in it wont fit flush because the antenna adapter at the back sticks out against the metal plate thats there..ideas?

Had the same issure becaue the deck I got left the rca's sticking way out and hit that metal support. I took an air saw and cut the top of that metal thing and then bent it down. Now everything fits great. I highly doubt that the metal thing was all that important because it isn't a very thick metal. I asked the installer at the shop I work at and he told me to do this. He said that he is having to do this more and more to the newer "all cramed together" cars.

No its not normal for most radios, it has nothing to do with the radio. It has to do with the power source obtained to turn the radio on.

NoLeafClover, connect the red wire you have running to the fuse box to the sunroof fuse (whether you have a sunroof or not there will be a sunroof fuse). That will restore original functionality of the RAP (retained accessory power) and the radio will turn on in acc and not turn off until you open a door, just like stock.

I just figured that all of them have a roof fuse here from what I've read here -- my car has a sunroof so obviously it has a fuse for it. I'm pretty sure I read on here people who have a base model with no power windows and have a sunroof fuse.

Not sure what you would tap in to for an accessory lead if you have a base model without a sunroof......

Wipers! Sure you might not have the delay untill the doors open but it will turn off when the car turns off.

That's probably what he has it wired to already. If you tap the wiper fuse, the radio will turn on when the ignition is turned to run (not acc) and will turn off as soon as the car goes off.

This is the fuse I use to power my amp, its goes on and off with the radio, pretty sweet, use it instead of tapping something else.
