To get the factory XM installed from the dealer is probably possible, just a lot of money and work. Might be better off just getting an aftermarket XM unit. Only way to know for sure is to go to the dealer and ask.

Mine won't even bother installing it in my car. Just go aftermarket man.

Two years ago when I bought a Cavalier, I was wishin I would have had them install XM. They had asked me if I wanted it but I never heard it before so I said no. A few months later I called the dealer and asked how much they would charge to put an XM stereo in and they said it was about $540. I just had to come in and pre-pay to order it.

Anyways, XM in my new SS/SC works great! I just wish the pioneer had more XM presets because I like so many channels on it. If you do get a seperate XM radio, using it with the built in transmitter will suck because too many rado stations interfere with the radio transmitter and sometimes someone with another XM radio will bleed over onto yours. The sound will be better if you get a radio with XM built in!

Go XM!

Possibly a dumb question:
If I bought an aftermarket cd player that was satellite ready, would I need a separate antenna?
I originally wanted one of the little portable sirius players but didn't like the idea of attaching another antenna to my car.

Well there are no inputs to the back of the stock radio so the XM direct wouldn't work. You would need to get another radio.

I'd try them both. Most store will let you return the equpment with no issues and I kno sirius lets you cancel your subscription and not pay anything within 7 or 10 days. Personally, I like XM better. It seems to have better reception here and I channel surf alot less with it. Just my .02

go with sirrius. it has the playboy radio station. ( channel 198). and also you have to go to your account on sirrius.com and set it up or call in and tell them you want it .

Ive got that newer model delphi roady xt, cost me 40 bucks for the reciever and car kit at wal mart of all places lol. has a built in fm modulator works great for me and I have the xm ant right above the driver door ( too lazy to route wire thru trunk for better location)with a rubber shorty for the radio( 9 bucks at auto zone) crystal clear i use station 107.7 seems to work fine i only cutout once in a great while and ive been all over NY except the city. I got the boombox for the house for when i wanna listen at home or work. I think it sounds better than the fm and you can't beat the programs. I think u can store about thirty presets and stuff plus stock qoutes and some other useless to me crap. you can even choose the backlight colors i used the vent mount that comes with it just clips in and puts the unit at a good location for the driver. and yes radio in NY sucks these days!!!

Yeah I have a hard time chosing between XM and my CD's. Sometimes I'll play a song on a CD then see what's playing on XM! I love it!

so is sat radio worth it, im debating on whether or not to get it and which to get, my deck can take either sirius or xm but i want the one that will have better stations, best reception, sound quality etc... im big on sound qaulity so that would be the deciding factor..

I think it's worth it. Besides my Cobalt with XM I have two portable XM radios with active subscriptions so that's a total of three subs. I love the commercial free music channels the most. If you are a sound expert, satelite radio isn't for you though because there is a slight noticeable differance in sound quality between a CD and satelite radio, that being a CD will be better anyday. As far as which is better, all of us who have satelite will tell you that the one we have is the best so do your own checking, go to a store where you can hear both side by side. Then go from there.
