Deciding to supercharge instead of turbo
i understand the money factor. if thats your concern then definitely go supercharger. if you have the knowledge, time and the tools you can build yourself a very nice turbo setup for ~1500.00 depending on what parts you can aquire used.
anyway. either way you go, its better than natural aspiration.................
enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Let me tell you a story. Had a buddy with a 98 Civic Si. Great car and quick for the time. Though "Hey, I'll supercharge it and get more power." We looked and priced out a jackson racing kit and turbo kit for fun. He was worried about his 0-60 time. I said "Who stops exactly at 60 (LOL, two cars race and nail the brakes at 60.......thats just ***** talk). You always go faster than that." He said, "I like the sound and its $400 bucks cheaper. "Fine.....you will regret it." We put it on and got that thing up and running. Nice quick car. After only a power increase of 50hp. I said was it worth the 3200. He said "NO." He was so angry he sold the car 4 months later and got a Talon Tsi. He could have had 270 to the wheels with only $400 bucks more. Why cut off your own *****? Why? Listen to a friend.
turbos sized correctly can have minimal lag to a point were boost can happen just off idle. your forgetting the fact that a supercharger has a linear boost pattern. a supercharger may create boost early but it may not create max boost pressure till mid to high rpm where as a turbo can create full boost quickly. a supercharger may produce only 2 psi boost at 2500 rpm where a turbo can produce its max boost setting say 10 psi at 2500 rpm. this by far makes a turbo more fun and a lot more efficient bacause you dont need to spin up your motor to max rpm to get anything out of it.
you want more power, more fun, and win races. turbo is the way to go.
nhra engines are making 2000 + hp and burn nitro methane. there are a couple using turbo's but this is by means no comparison to a street car so its not even worth getting into.
thats more preference then fact........

too much mis information in this post so I'll just address these things in bold. 1st, I dont care about minimal lag... I want NO lag. And "turbo is the way to go" is your opinion not fact. One more thing, a GREAT turbo set up with "minimal" lag may give you psi down low and may build volume fairly quickly but I get full boost & full volume instantly. I'm not saying turbos dont have more power potential because they do! But, I've driven the turbo a few times and I like my SC way better, and I'm not afraid to say that this is my OPINION.
ive built many sc vehicles and many turbo vehicles. turbo is the way to go (FACT).
Superchargers on 4cyls just seem so pointless to me. The instant power argument is so flawed. The K04s on SS/TCs spool so fast too. I've raced against 3 SS/SCs and right as I hear their whine, my K04 is already boosting 20 PSI and I've already blown their doors off.
Based on the laws of physics (i.e. FACT) turbos are far more efficient. They make power from wasted engine gasses whereas a SC requires engine power to in turn make more of it. Let alone the fact the things are hot air machines sitting RIGHT ON TOP of your intake manny!! Ever seen a supercharged Semi Tractor Trailer?? Ever wonder why??
Now to the OP. Don't listen to any of us. We just like to hear ourselves talk (type). You do what makes you happy and enjoy it to the fullest. I'll be watching for your build thread.

i kno both forms pretty well because i bought a 05 ss/sc. the sc is fun and beating a turbo car makes you smile but when i turbo swapped it was a whole different ball game, im running 23psi on a s20g and i get better gas and the intake temps droped tremendously. ppl talk about lag but its not bad at all, im at full boost at 3k-3500rpms and if you dont want to spin just dont hammer the gas or just peddel the car. not say'n this is the op but ppl always aim for a whp number and expect to be happy....wrong! imo if you're going to throw down the money go turbo, not because its the "thing to do" but if you ever decide to push for more you wont be wasting you're money on porting the throttle body, intake mani, the sc itself, cams, e85, and pulley'n down to a 2.6 to get 15whp
when i put my turbo kit on with no tune it was twice as fast as my fully bolted 2.8 setup. not saying you are making the wrong decision but think about it. i think the sc belongs on bigger motors, turbos are fit for any app but bring out great potential in 4cyl cars (with less effort)
This is just a small explenation from my experience and not from watching fast n' furious kthanksbye.

Dont get me wrong, I know turbos have the potential to make more power easier, I've said that a few times already. But, I dont care what anyone says, the power comes on faster with an SC. I understand that turbos now days have very little lag but an SC has no lag. I would rather have a 400whp 400wtq SC car than a 400whp 400wtq turbo car.

Yeah I Love my 2007 Cobalt SS s/c, Once you get some MODs done to the car like a Good CAI and Smaller Pulley say 2.9 or smaller, Then it REALLY Whines! I Love the Loud Whine that mine makes! Trust me you'll be happy with s/c
Fact is, the 2.2 can only handle so much power so both routes will be about the same thing.
When it comes down to price, just go S/C.
If you are wanting a bit more reliability for your engine you may want to go turbo to save your cylinders.
Other than that, who cares. This is a non discussion and is pure preference.
OP get to S/C that bitch and be done.

and a turbo car will yeld more torque than hp and a sc usually has less torque and higher hp so good luck with those numbers.if i dumbed down my car to your're power lvl i would still win over and over. do you kno how may times im at the track and needed a bag of ice to cool my motor because of the sc? with the turbo i run back to back without pop'n the hood. its not just about the power but efficiency. ppl can go back n' forth but we all get the point. i say to the op do what you want but he made a thread and we are stating our opinion.
btw im not venting
:P
