Deciding to supercharge instead of turbo
Dont get me wrong, I know turbos have the potential to make more power easier, I've said that a few times already. But, I dont care what anyone says, the power comes on faster with an SC. I understand that turbos now days have very little lag but an SC has no lag. I would rather have a 400whp 400wtq SC car than a 400whp 400wtq turbo car.
It can be done without nitrous. I'd need E98
but could be done w/o nitrous. And I didnt say I was trying to build a 400 whp and 400 wtq SC lsj. I was just giving an example. All you guys are putting words in my mouth. Here I'll fix it a little for all you who assume to much I would rather have a 300whp/300wtq SC car than a 300whp/300wtq turbo car. And YES I know that the number will different between hp and tq numbers on both cars. Basically my point is I the way a SC feels and drives over the way a turbo feels and drives. The actual hp/tq numbers are not important to the point I am trying to make.
Geez! Can't anyone just say "Cool man it will be a fun project." Either way SC or TC is a cool project. ryman starts by saying he wants something just a little bit faster and suddenly people are talking about 20+psi and racing. Not everyone needs or wants a 350hp fwd car. I recently SC my car and it has been a really fun project and I am satisfied with my results. Even if I went turbo I would still be saying have fun with it. 200hp is all that is being sought after here(assuming whp) and that is easily attainable with an m62.

Some seem to just want to stroke each others Ego's. Mainly their own. "Mines Better, No MINES Better" blah blah blah.
Instead of just saying , Cool go for it, need help were here for ya.
I am Supercharging my 2.4 Automatic HHR Panel next Summer, I have 90% of my "kit" now and am Polishing my Blower over the Winter, already started the sanding and polishing it but set it aside to complete my Audio and Video installations in my Panel.
I am doing it just for the hell of it, as a fun project on my daily driver/semi show car.
I do what pleases Me, Not what others want. At my age, I care less what others think I should do to or install in my car.
I have absolutely ZERO interest in turbos. But I won't Dog those that want to install one either.
I say stick to your plan and SC it if you want.

I agree with you, any build is interesting especially if it's done right (blower or turbo).
I like a lot the whine of the sc and wanted sc the car (wanted the instant powar lol)
i did a lot but a lot of thinking a debating that lasted about 1 year long lol
my DD my car a lot, i want to keep it too for a long time.......
7psi 234whp on ok tune, now im 10psi better tune havent tune. car feels gooooood.
but whatever you decide, is up to you, have fun, enjoy the build, and enjoy the results.

ha dude. when it boils down its ur car and your money. supercharged or turbocharged, still gonna be fun and reliable if done right. i agree with the exhaust note comment earlier however. superchargers tend to have a raspy tone but cheaper and easier. turbo is more for the speed junkies with deep ass pockets
im 24, never dick rided a turbo but im just stating the differences i have experience between the two.

So where are you finding all the parts needed for the install? I've looked all over and can't find any complete kits. Am i just ignorant to a good website?
But i figured supercharging my 2.2 would be a pretty decent project i could take care of at school. Probably just wishful thinking.
Also im not saying i prefer turbo over supercharger or vice versa, but i feel supercharged 4cyl have a little more character considering just about any other guy out on the street that wants bigger power is turboing their car.
I know turbo's can make more power on average and that's why their so popular. But in a supercharger install there's less parts to go wrong and less work to be done along the way and in the long run, Am i right? just throwin my thoughts out in the pool. I'd like to get a blower on my base model just to have a badass little sleeper...

Nelson Racing Engines - Twin Turbo Race Gas Warrior
next to go into a cobalt......lmao wishful thinking

LOL - Nelson Racing engines are bad. I'm subscribed to him on youtube. As far as supercharging or turbocharging I would prefer supercharged going for smaller numbers (ex: 300whp+) and would go turbo if looking any higher. I already have a turbo car and nothing beats that rush of power when boost hits, but I like the steady increase/response a supercharger gives as well. I'm a car guy and horsepower junkie, so if the setup makes me smile that's all I care about. Good luck with your car and do whatever makes you happy!
