cobalt-addiction makes 2.25" and 2.5" either with or without cat; i believe they use vibrant cats. hahn racecraft also makes a down pipe. i believe it is 2.75" w/ cat

I think the consensus is everyone here making going turbo is going to a good exhaust shop and getting a custom piece or making their own.

okay. explain to me the difference in a "turbo specific" downpipe as you call it, and a regular downpipe.

ok a turbo specific downpipe is typically shorter and set llower than stock and has either a 4 bolt or 5 bolt turbine outlet hookup...generally theres abut a 90 degree bend right at the outlet...which in our cars makes for a hell of a difference and requires a custom downpipe to be made

I"ll take pics of both of mine when I get home to show you the difference. And v-band styles work pretty good, easy to put on and take off. Just basically 2 round flanges with a lip and a clamp with a u shaped groove in the middle to clamp both together. I ended up going a custom route, actually through cobalt-addiction. Took Kenny about 20-30 minutes to tack it up, and Matt finished welded it in a few minutes after that. I'm running a 5-bolt flange style on mine, little bit harder to make the dp for that becuase all the bends must be exact and the angle must be perfect, v-band you get a little rotational play to help ya out.

okay...still not understanding why an adequately sized down pipe with a hi flow cat wouldnt work with forced induction.

it's not that it wouldn't work with forced induction. when you have a turbo, you now have a turbo manifold that needs to bolt to the downpipe. so your downpipe has to match the flange on the manifold. which is why most people go custom.

ok, got ya. if one buys a turbo mani that bolts up to the stock downpipe, then this is not needed; any stock replacement will do.

not sure what your saying...turbo downpipe requires a special 4 or 5 bolt flange

There isn't any turbo manifold that will fit the stock DP.

the manifold in the hahn system for the 2.4 and the garrett system for the 2.2 hook to the stock exhaust. the picture of the system clearly shows a three bolt flange.
