You would not want to buy half a kit you can't use, and then the rest later. Save up, buy it all at once. It is totally illogical to buy it a piece at a time. Save for it a dollar at a time.

You can not use a different intake. The plumbing routing is completely different. No aftermarket intake would be able to be used with any turbo kit.
First, big Hi to all, am new around here.

I'm interested in this kit but have a few questions and I really appreciate it Halfcent if you could ask your contact in Honeywell one or two additional questions.
Basically my concerns relate to the physical size of the kit. I have limited room in my engine bay and would need to get hold of some measurements to insure this will fit. I have a chassis cross-member which runs below the exhaust ports and I need to understand how far the turbo housing drops. I think the turbo itself will fit find but I might have to custom make an exhaust flange, which really wouldn't be too big an issue as I'd have to custom fit an exhaust anyway.

Do you think Honeywell would provide dimensions for each piece?

Thanks!
Steve

Come On People. I Mean I Am More Than Excited That The Turbo Is Here But I Thought I Would Get More Bang For My Buck. I Mean Only 60 Hp For 3200 Bones That Comes Out To Be Just Over 53 Dollars For 1 Hp And To Me That Is Just Plain Stupid.

so 212 dollars for 4 horsepower? sounds like an intake to me, wouldnt you be paying the same price then?

i have not read the site yet but im assuming 200whp. since our car does around 130whp that would be 70whp, a lot of parts, and a very bad ass cobalt for 3200

I WILL BE THE 1ST TO TELL YOU I WOULD LOVE A TURBO BUT THIS IS THE COMPARISON FROM THE SITE AND IF YOU DO THE MATH IT IS ONLY 62 HP. IT DOESN'T EVEN CLAIM TO BE WHP. AND I DO AGREE ABOUT THE INTAKE THAT IS A CRAP GAIN FOR 200 BONES, SO THE ONLY WAY TO GET A GOOD BANG FOR BUCK IN N2O AND I WOULDN'T DO THAT EAITHER. I MEAN WHO REALY HAS 3200 BUCKS LYING AROUND?
PERFORMANCE COMPARISON

Stock Garrett Turbo Kit
HP 136 @ 5500 rpm 198 @ 5000 rpm
Stock 139 lbf/ft @ 4000 rpm 219 lbf/ft @ 4000 rpm

im assuming WHP because chrisault, css member, hit 135 whp and 139tq.

70lb torque gain is amazing. especially since this kit is probably running 7lbs or so, nothing pushy.

....
and i have 3200 lieing around why dont you?

For the new questions/concerns...

You don't need dimensions. The kit is specifically designed for use on your Cobalt, so it will fit. If you have some kind of custom brace back there, my question is; What brace? Get rid of it.

As for the power made by the kit, I would say, relax. Garrett / Honeywell is going to sell you a kit they know they can warranty. No more than 8 psi. I assure you that with a simple adjustment of the waste gate and more pressure, you would get more power. You would just be doing that on your own. And, the flanges all match for a direct turbo swap to a larger unit, which can support close to 400HP.

Sorry, should of pointed out that I have the same engine as the Cobalt but thats where the similarities stop. My car is an Opel Speedster (see sig). This car is a mid-mounted engine affair running a Lotus chassis. The main rear chassis cross memeber is behind the engine. I don't fancy cutting holes in the alu chassis for a turbo install so would need dimensions.

Apologies for hijacking the superb Cobalt SS forum!

In that case, you don't want this kit. You would do better with custom stuff. Most of the parts on this kit just plain wouldn't fit your car. And you have a completely different ECM.

I'm interested in this kit for a number of reasons. One been the manifold configuration. The standard ECM in my machine has been completely removed and replaced with a thirdparty EMS that I can configure on the dyno or on the road with my laptop so no worries there.

I'd appreciate it if you'd just give me a yes or no on whether or not you can get me the numbers Thnx

I don't have dimensions for ya, might want to get in touch with Garrett directly regarding that...

I would however, just like to say that your car is beautiful. I took a look at the link in your sig and have no doubts you could get this kit to work.

Thanks IonNinja! I think I will have to doctor the turbine's exhaust exit flange. Am looking for a contact email address for tech support, or somebody with experience, in Garrett. if anybody has one I'd appreciate it if you could forward it on to me.

Steve.

The 2.2L Garrett turbo car was at the California Speedway 2 weeks ago doing some testing. The reps were very happy with the way the car was running, however we are still waiting for the electronics which are holding the project back.

It's not to say they don't have the necessary parts, they are still testing and fine turning the electronics.
