old or new?

2008 hhr ss auto. Considering big turbo, intercooler, exhaust, and tune with hp goal of 400 - 425. Question is to do this to an engine with 60k, or spring for a new LDK to start with? Car is not a daily driver, 12k over 3 years to shows, test and tune nights to humiliate Mustang owners. Whats your thoughts, old or new?

Keep your existing engine and throw a proper sized turbo on there, S-256 would work.

I have tuned a few. Gunney07 ran his at the track and it trapped 122-123 MPH on 93 octane and 28-29psi max boost. No dyno but based on his traps and the stock trans roughy 450 whp. Stock LNF motor, stock 5 speed manual. Your auto might be even quicker but you do have more weight and less aero vs a Balt.

Performance is similar but the ZFR loves to surge in the midrange I think most of the issue is the factory exhaust manifold though the kappa efr cars with new manifolds do not seem to have as big of an issue.

Yeah, it's annoying. I'll be at 15 psi light throttle and it will just blow off

Guy with a rack in his backyard garage will do the install in about 2 weeks. Too old and too cold to lay on my back using jack stands

Starting with zzp Matt's tune to sort it out. Will probably use local shop for dyno tuning once the weather comes around. If that doesn't work out, i'll contact you. thanks

Zzp s256 kit installed. Runs with no codes. Needs a better tune than what the kit came with. zero driveability.

I have struggled with this setup since install. Big thanks to Mad Dr Phil for the info and to my brother for fixing the vacuum line routing. Back to tuning!!! (with Terminator2)
