Part # 17800003
I emailed GM to ask for specifics on GM part 17800003 which, as we all know, is the 2.2L supercharger. The response specified the 2005 application, but I can only imagine that this is the same for anything with the same calibration.
I emailed GM Goodwrench and here is the official response:
Thank you for visiting the Goodwrench website, Mr. Buckley.
We appreciate your e-mail regarding the 17800003 supercharger, a supercharged LS1 and warranty information.
Supercharger kit part number 17800003 will not work on 2005 engines. Unfortunately, there is no calibration available for the supercharger on these engines.
With regards to a supercharged LS1, GM does not offer this engine. The GM Performance Parts LS1 crate engine has been discontinued.
To learn how vehicle modifications will affect your warranty before having them done, please call Chevrolet Customer Assistance at 1-800-222-1020. Be sure to have your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) available when you call.
We are sorry that we cannot be of more assistance with this inquiry. If we can assist you in the future, please visit www.gmgoodwrench.com.
Thank you for your inquiry.

Comments: I have a few questions that I don't trust a dealer to anwer.
Part # 17800003 is a supercharger for the 2.2L ECOTEC. I drive a base model 2005 Cobalt. Although the supercharger is meant for the Cavalier, rumors are out that this is a great option for my model. I want to know what type of tuning GM has available for this type of bolt-on and what type of dyno stats are available for a supercharged LS1. Also, can GM perform this upgrade under warranty?
I think we can safely put to rest any hopes of supercharging our 2.2L Cobalts through GM anytime soon. Yes—I realize that the Build Book says otherwise, but this is a response on a very straightforward questions from GM. The person who responded did not specify whether 17800003 would work for any year other than 2005, but I find the odds highly unlikely.
According to multiple threads on this site including the HPTuners section, a tuning solution for the 2.2L will be available in the spring. Tune Time has a thread on this site that claims to already be able to tune. With these options, 2.2L Cobalts should be able to start putting aftermarket turbochargers on their engines by summer.

In regards to Tune Time...I don't know about that.
In regards to the Supercharger Kit, it can physically fit your car...same engine. There is just no current tuning solution.
As far as warranty, I highly doubt they would warranty a kit meant for the J-body platform on a Cobalt.

I knew the supercharger would probably fit the engine, but I wanted to hear GM say it wouldn't work. I probably wouldn't use GM for this anyway. Besides, that's a long ways away. I have lots of other work to do on my engine before I really get serious about forced induction. I've been reading, but I won't know enough for a while. I'm even contemplating an alternative route just in case (top secret).
I hope this answers questions for a bunch of people who seem set on that part.

I assume you meant LS (as in the car model -> Cobalt LS).

Either way, it doesn't matter. The email clearly says that the supercharger is not intended for use on a 2005 Cobalt due to the computer.
